  • Armenia U17 & U19

The Armenian u17 and u19 teams have finished first place each in their respective groups in the qualifying rounds of the tournaments. on top of this note that our groups were among the hardest groups in the whole thing. so as baron stated before it does really seem that the future looks bright for the national team. lets just hope that now the two teams can deliver in the the next qualifying rounds and if they manage to win their tournaments it will be a truly great day for Armenia. Ole ole ole ole , oleeeeeeeeee oleeeeeeeeeeeeeee. HAYASTAN

      we talking about football?

i think more importantly we should support our armenian brothers and sisters who come consistently within top 3 in chess or top 10 in weightlifting, just because yankee propaganda doesnt glamourise these sports, it doesnt mean these sporting people arent heroes

        lol, grvazan....

Yankee propaganda doesn't really glamourise footbol, trust me.
And as proud as we can be with our chess and weightlifting, it still doesn't compare to the sport that all of the world, except North America, follows religiously. And yes, I will admit, it is more entertaining to have a top 10 footbol team, than a top 10 chess one.

I still don't see why you had to create some debate in this thread also.

            We are animals with weightlifting.
            We are intellectuals with chess.
            Sounds like the prefect ethnicity.

we're not THAT good in chess.
I don't really follow "chess news"
but just cuz we have one person in the top 10 or whatever doesn't mean anything.
I think it just sounds cool to say "we're good in chess".
cuz it's chess and it requires brains inchkidnaminch.
the only chess player I've heard of is Gary Kasparov, and SOMEHOW we're convinced he's armo. lol
              just shush lol

Actually Armenians consistently win national championships. And not just only one or two Armenians.

Gary Kasparov is half Armenian and half Jewish. His Jewish father died when he was a baby. He was raised by his mothers parents and took there name Kasparian. He does not claim to be either Jewish or Armenian; he calls himself Russian. He was born in Gharapagh, by the way.

Actually, as Arvestaked said, we DO kick ass in chess.
We ranked 3rd in the world championships last year, after Russia and Hungary I think. And Kasparov wasn't even playing for us.

If you calculate the number of grandmasters we have, based on our total population, we might be the best chess country in the world. And how can we forget the great Tigran Petrosyan, who was the world champion at his time?
And that is not to count all the armenians we have that are the top players of other countries...

Kasparov IS half-armenian. He chartered a plane to get his family and other armenians out of Baku when the clashes began.

And "just shush"? Come on, if you admit that you don't know about chess, koné toon kich me lré....
