Of all the idiotic statements you have made on this forum (and there have been so many) the above is by far the most "ungenious".

    Nice photo Tigranakert.
Now if they could plant trees all around, that would be just great.

Depends on taste. I think it's done geniously, taking into account the limited budget and the small (thin and long) area. It's a beautiful combination between classical and modern. Meshes in very well with the orignal building, in a unique way.

So I've never seen the Matenadaran in person, and I almost never see any side of it other than the front on the internet, but I found this while googling

Does this mean they're expanding it? or does it mean they're going to build a new bigger one with an identical entrance?

Shahabian's project won the 2nd place in an international architecture contest.
...in an international architecture contest that had but two entrants?

Yerevan residents will decide Persia Tower's fate – Municipality
    November 17, 2011 - 13:04 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net - Neither Yerevan Municipality nor Architecture Council have discussed the project of Persia Tower construction, city administration’s spokesman said.

As Artur Gevorgyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, project discussion has been scheduled to most probably take place at Architecture Council. If approved by the Council, the project will be submitted to public discussion with the involvement of interested parties. Thus, Yerevan residents will be able to decide whether to allow or ban the Persia Tower construction.

Persia Tower, a 50-storey skyscraper designed by Iranian architect Aryan Shahabian is planned to be built in the center of Yerevan, between Moscow film theatre and Golden Tulip hotel.

Shahabian's project won the 2nd place in an international architecture contest.

my point is that even if every detail was carefully planned, if things are rushed they'll never be done correctly.

And actually they are trying to get many projects done quickly, by 2014, b/c they expect near a million Armenians from the diaspora to make some sort of pilgrimage the following year to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the genocide, and they want every thing to look nice enough to make a majority of those "pilgrims" to comeback every year.

And carefully planned or not, I still wonder if buildings are being built up to general standards for earthquake prone areas... just buliding a building with a solid foundation isn't enough
