Van hit by a 5.4 magnitude aftershock few hours ago that has killed at least three people and collapsed 21 buildings including a hotel. More people are believed to have been trapped under the rubble. SAR (Search and Rescue) teams are trying to find possible survivors however they have to wait few hours until daylight for full rescue ops.

Epicenter and amount of complete damage not known yet.

YEREVAN. – The Varagavank Monastery, which is a major Armenian holy site nearby Van, Turkey,
was damaged by the earthquake in Van.

In an interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am, Ashot Soghomonyan, manager of Narekavank Tour Company,
which organizes tourist visits to eastern Turkey, noted he had asked his friends to go and see the Monastery,
and they informed that its entrance and frontal part, particularly the wall with unique frescoes, were damaged.

Humanitarian aid and politics should be kept seperate. Armenia is sending aid on a dirrect flight from Yerevan to Erzurum. Our tents look camouflage.

Representatives from the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations left the capital Yerevan via plane to Erzurum, Turkey, to transfer Armenian government’s 40 tons of relief cargo.

The aid comprises over 100 tents, 500 sleeping bags, and more than 7,000 sleeping gears.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, by way of the Turkish Red Crescent and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre, Armenia on Thursday received the Turkish government’s formal request for earthquake relief.

foreign aid began pouring in with the first planeloads landing from France, Ukraine, and Israel, Reuters reported.

And was this aid routed via the Antarctic, or Australia? That is what bringing tents from Armenia to Van via Izmir amounts to. If Turkey cannot open its land border with Armenia even in times of emergency - or even allow a flight from Yerevan to Kars or Van, then no aid should be offered by Armenia.

Armenia Sends Earthquake Relief Aid To Turkey

YEREVAN -- Armenia says it will send a planeload of humanitarian aid to the survivors of a powerful earthquake in southeastern Turkey that killed more than 500 people and left thousands of others homeless, RFE/RL's Armenian Service reports.

The Armenian Emergency Situations Ministry announced that a transport plane will deliver 40 tons of tents, sleeping bags, blankets, and other aid to the western Turkish city of Izmir on October 28.

A ministry statement said the Turkish government requested such assistance from the international community through the Turkish Red Crescent Society and NATO's Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center.

The Armenian government offered to send relief aid and rescuers immediately after the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the area around the Turkish city of Van on October 23.

President Serzh Sarkisian reiterated the offer in a phone call with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul the following day.

With the epicenter of the quake located only 150 kilometers south of the Turkish-Armenian border, strong and unusually long tremors were also felt in much of Armenia, though they caused no devastation.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 24 thanked foreign countries for offering help -- including Armenia and Israel, which have poor relations with Ankara -- but said Turkey can cope with the disaster by itself.

Erdogan's government has since faced growing accusations of neglect or ineptitude from scores of earthquake survivors whose homes were destroyed or seriously damaged by the quake.

Reports from the disaster zone spoke on October 27 of an acute shortage of tents badly needed by thousands of people sleeping in the open in freezing temperatures.

Answering Turkey's call for help to supply tents, prefabricated housing, and containers, foreign aid began pouring in with the first planeloads landing from France, Ukraine, and Israel, Reuters reported.

This is is partly to minimise the % of the Kurdish population in Turkey, and partly to go along with EU propaganda that minimises Turkey's overall population. Turkey probably has a population of 120 million, maybe more, but EU propaganda sometimes gives figures as low as 70 million. Similar population statistics manipulation goes on throughout Turkey.

Turkey has asked Israel for aid after turning it down at first.....also the Iranian relief/rescue-trucks who have been in the zone are getting looted.

Israel said on Tuesday that it was launching an airlift of supplies to help Turkey cope with a devastating earthquake, following a request from Ankara, with an initial shipment of prefabricated homes prepared to leave on Wednesday.

Israel's Foreign Ministry said Ankara had sought the aid via the Israeli Embassy there, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered assistance during a telephone call to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the quake struck on Sunday.
