Activists prepare to storm Indoor Market
    by Karina Manukyan
    Friday, August 30

The civil movement "Let's save the monument from the oligarch" is going to intensify the fight for maintenance of the Indoor Market.

Ani Kochar, an activist of the movement, said at today's press conference that on August 31 the activists will start peaceful actions in front of the Indoor Market and will constantly control the situation to prevent any attempts to continue the construction and repair in the Market. She does not rule out that the tension around the Market may escalate, because there may be provokers and corrupt "activists".

Kochar pointed at the Armenian Culture Ministry's repeated statements about the illegal construction in the area of the Indoor Market. Despite these statements, the construction was continued and almost completed. According to the media reports, the Indoor Market will open in mid September as an ordinary supermarket.

Activist Sarhat Petrosyan, in turn, pointed at the Convention for the Protection of the Architectural Heritage. According to the Convention and to the current legislation of Armenia, the state has the right to deprive the owner of the property rights in case the latter damages the monument.

The Civic Movement "Let's save the monument from the oligarch" has recently been set up in defense of the Indoor Market. Architect Sashur Kalashyan, activist Yeghia Nersisyan, analyst Garegin Chugaszyan, singer Artur Ispiryan and many other well-known people are among the members of the movement. The owner of the indoor market is oligarch-parliamentarian Samvel Aleksanyan.

The Indoor Market was built in 1952 by Armenian architect Grigory Aghababyan's project and has been considered one of the symbols of the Armenian capital since then. The repair inside the building has damaged the original exterior of the building. In early June, the municipality promised that the constructions erected inside the building would be demolished and the original appearance would be restored. However, these constructions have not been dismantled.

Indoor Market of Yerevan will shortly open as a supermarket
    by Karina Manukyan
    Thursday, August 29

The Indoor Market of Yerevan will open in the near future. According to the media, it will be able to serve its first customers on September 15. It is a big question whether the current market will resemble the one Yerevan's residents were accustomed to, especially given its interior photos published by the Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper. Judging by the photos, it will be an ordinary supermarket consisting of two floors. This runs counter to the statements that the building will have its initial appearance.

A Civic Movement "Let's save the monument from the oligarch" has recently been set up in defense of the indoor market. Architect Sashur Kalashyan, activist Yeghia Nersisyan, analyst Garegin Chugaszyan and singer Artur Ispiryan are among the members of the movement. The owner of the indoor market is oligarch-parliamentarian Samvel Aleksanyan.

On August 29 Garegin Chugaszyan told the media that the movement intends to fight for maintenance of the Indoor Market in all legal ways. He recalled that the Indoor Market is on the list of Yerevan's historical monuments and the changes in its appearance are illegal. Though there are almost 2 weeks left before the opening of the market, the analyst thinks that it is not late to retrieve the Indoor Market the residents of Yerevan love so much.

Sashur Kalashyan thinks that the responsibility for the current situation lies on the Municipality of Yerevan, because the public has repeatedly tried to draw the Municipality's attention to the construction of the reinforced concrete frame that disfigures the appearance of the building. He recalled that the market owner has been fined twice. According to the current legislation, if the owner has repeatedly evaded the obligations imposed on him, the state has the right to take away the monument from him.
Artur Ispiryan, in turn, pointed out that the atmosphere of the Indoor Market and the mixture of dialects from all over Armenia are one of the bright memories of his childhood. In this context, he expressed regret that the initial exterior of the building has not been restored and the building will no longer be an indoor market. "I condemn the fact that we are losing the history of Yerevan because of the personal benefit of a few people", he said.

CIVIC MOVEMENT "LET'S SAVE THE MONUMENT FROM THE OLIGARCH" SET UP IN DEFENSE OF THE CITY INDOOR MARKET
    by Karina Manukyan

    Tuesday, August 27, 16:26

Civic Movement "Let's save the monument from the oligarch" has been
set up in defense of the city indoor market. The owner of the indoor
    market is oligarch-parliamentarian Samvel Aleksanyan.

The Civic Movement says in a statement provided to ArmInfo the goal
of the movement is to bring the owner responsible and make him pay
for the damage caused to the monument and restore the monument to its
original appearance. If the owner fails to fulfill the above demands,
the Movement will dispute his right to property in the country. The
Movement pledges to achieve the goals set on the basis of the country's
legislation, Constitution, and the principles and standards of the
    International Law.

Civic Movement "Let's save the monument from the oligarch" has brought
together architect Sashur Kalashyan, sculptor Vigen Avetisyan,
honorable cultural worker Gagik Ginosyan, singer Arthur Ispiryan,
conductor Vartan Hakobyan, system analyst Garegin Chukaszyan,
publicist Vahram Martirosyan, activists Yeghya Nersisyan, architect
Marina Parazyan, editor-in-chief of Ararat Magazine Alyona Simonyan,
    and lawyer Karo Yekhnuykyan.

To note, the Indoor Market is included in the list of the historical
monuments of Yerevan. It was built in 1952 by Armenian architect
Grigory Aghababyan's project and has been considered one of the
symbols of the Armenian capital since then. The repairs inside the
building has damaged the original appearance of the building.

In early June, the municipality promised that the constructions erected
inside the building will be demolished and the original appearance will
be restored. Nevertheless, Head of the Union of Architects of Armenia
Mkrtich Minasyan claims that the building already has stories, which
contradicts to the municipality's promises to restore the original
    appearance of the market.

Covered Market... is at the same time a cultural monument. All - from the
residents of a nearby buildings, finishing with the Mayor and the President of
the country - discussed the issue of Covered Market, but, in fact, the fate
which it awaits, becomes a reality.

But then, suddenly, on the basis of the fact that the Covered Market is
also a cultural monument, the Ministry of Culture finally showed the
courage to demand from the Yerevan Municipality to stop construction of the
    Covered Market.

Thus, the Ministry has transferred this task to another field where already
process of negotations will not take place on the format of the Ministry of
Culture, City Hall, but on the format City Hall-owner. And according to the
rumors, the owner of the Covered Market is a bright representative of the
oligarchic system Samvel Aleksanyan, although the deputy of the National
Assembly has all documents, but all roads lead to him.

That is, the issue of the Covered Market is now the issue that supposedly
emanates from the relationship of the newly elected Mayor of Yerevan Taron
Margaryan and the owner of the supermarket Samvel Aleksanyan. And in order
to understand these relationships, we need only mention the festival of
Taron Margaryan, which involved the elite of the Republican Party led by
President Serzh Sargsyan and which was held in "Parvana" restaurant,
    belonging to Samvel Aleksanyan.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan did not
participate in the event, thus expressing, in all probability, her position
on the issue of the Covered Market.

However, as they say, "If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then
Muhammad must go to the mountain", according to this principle, Samvel
Aleksanyan was in the Ministry of Culture and not empty-handed, but with a
large bouquet of flowers, destined probably for Hasmik Poghosyan.

Who would have thought that one day Samvel Aleksanyan will be in the
Ministry of Culture, unless, of course, if we exclude the version that in
at least one day on the order of the President of the Republic of Armenia
Samvel Aleksanyan will be appointed Minister of Culture.

It turns out that the issue of Covered market can find its final decision
based on the results of the meeting between Samvel Aleksanyan and Hasmik
    Poghosyan.

If the construction of the Covered Market, in any case will be continued,
then Hasmik Poghosyan will finally fail the mission of the Ministry of
Culture, that is, the agreement between Samvel Aleksanyan and Hasmik
    Poghosyan will become a reality.

The fact that today the representatives of the criminal-oligarchic system,
who have everything in order concerning the documents, but not in reality,
once again prove their triumph over society, over a simple citizen. Covered
Market is just another barrier that is used for the establishment and
strengthening of the same criminal-oligarchic system, as well as to
    overcome the difficulties.

    Samvel Alexanyan Ran Away

Member of Parliament Samvel Alexanyan jokes to reporters, “I am not talking to you, you don’t ask me questions.”
Samvel Alexanyan says he was offended that on Monday, the first day of the parliamentary week, the reporters focused on the leader of the PAP parliamentary group Gagik Tsarukyan and ignored him.
Samvel Alexanyan repeated it today but when the reporters tried to interview him, he ran away. As he was asked the first question on the covered market, he said, “OK, I’m going.”

Whose are the two monsterous palaces located about 3km to the southwest?

I hope Tsarukyan's vanity never extends to vandalising (i.e "reconstructing") the nearby Ptghni church ruins.

Looking at the other clips, I wonder how many of Yerevan's worst were there, the corrupt and the criminal. "Daddy Serj" was there, standing next to a thuggish-looking character whose neck is so fat he can't get his tie properly tied (and who I thought at first was a bodyguard until I realised it was Tsarukyan himself!). Who is the man standing between them as they walk up the steps?
