thats just a joke, not a nickname. And the translation is somewhat wrong. its not donkey, its stupid. anyway...

But "Khar" does mean donkey, though I don't know in what language it is. The reason Elazig is called Elazig and not Yeni Harput is because someone told the Turks that "Har" means donkey (i.e. they thought "Kharput" meant "castle of donkeys".)

Bell-the-cat, is right, Xhar does means donkey (in Farsi). That's why they say "tork-e-xhar". It is to mean stupid but it's like saying "Jackass Turk" in English. And it's a lot more than just "a" joke ... much like there are polish jokes in English or "Abarantsi" jokes in Armenian, the "tork-e-xhar" theme is quite prevelant and is a part of the Iranian culture. And not just in jokes, it could be used as part of daily conversations to refer to "those" people

The belief that Azeris are a Turkic people is baseless and laughable.

In the 11th century A.D. with Seljukid conquests, Oghuz Turkic tribes started moving across the Iranian plateau into the Caucasus and Anatolia. The influx of the Oghuz and other Turkmen tribes was further accentuated by the Mongol invasion.[1] Here, the Oghuz tribes divided into various smaller groups, some of whom – mostly Sunni – moved to Anatolia (i.e., the Ottomans) and became settled, while others remained in the Caucasus region and later ... from 13th century onwards they gradually Turkified the Iranian-speaking populations of Azerbaijan, thus creating a new identity based on Shiism and the use of Oghuz Turkic. However, it is notable that the Turkification of Azaris was completed only by the late 1800s, while the old Iranic speakers can still be found in tiny isolated recesses of the mountains or other remote areas (such as Harzand, Galin Guya, Shahrud villages in Khalkhal and Anarjan). Today, this Turkic-speaking population is also known as Azeris.[2]

The Iranian origins of the Azeris likely derive from ancient Iranic tribes, such as the Medes in Iranian Azarbaijan, and Scythian invaders who arrived during the eighth century BCE. It is believed that the Medes mixed with Mannai.[3]

A recent study of the genetic landscape of Iran was completed by a team of Cambridge geneticists led by Dr. Maziar Ashrafian Bonab (an Iranian Azarbaijani).[4][5] The study found that the Azerbaijanis of Iran do not have a similar FSt and other genetic markers found in Anatolian and European Turks. However, the genetic Fst and other genetic traits like MRca and mtDNA of Iranian Azeris were identical to Persians in Iran.

The Persians need to revolt against there evil, slant eyed Asiatic masters.

The Azeris in Iran may well of intergrated themselves into Iranian society. However they aren't Iranic in origin, but like most Middle Easterners are decidedly mixed.

Although the Persians like the Turks had a empire and many Turkic people where influenced by Persia long before the Turk conquered Persia. Asiatic haplogroups account for almost 40% of Iranian Azeris paternal ancestry (which is even more than Turkish "Turks").

The original Turks were a Mongoloid people and not from Central Asia, which at one time was Indo-European, but rather Eastern Siberia and China.

Turkic is a admixture between Mongoloid (Mongol) and to a lesser degree Caucasoid (Indo-European/Ugric) peoples. However it's far more complicated than that. As even many Mongol people have Caucasoid ancestry and lots of Indo-European/Ugric, people where originally Turkic or Mongol people, who migrated west and became more Caucasoid.

Azeris Iranic/Mesopotamian markers such as R1a/J2 but not enough to be Indo-Iranic. The Greeks, Persians, Armenians, Assyrians and Lebanese on the other hand all certainly have links to ancient Persia/Mesopotamian.

Azeris in Northern Iran Y-DNA haplogroups are distributed as follows:

Azeris are not of Turkic origin, they're of Iranic origin, they were Turkified in the 9th century through invasions and expansions.

Persians consider Azerbaijanis (from Azerbajian) Turkefied Iranians. Some even consider themselves as having some Turkic blood.
