Iran. We are doing the same thing with natural gas currently.

If within the next 10 years Armenia can build a new NPP, a railway to Iran, and this refinery, then we will see Armenia's stock rise considerably in all spheres both domestic and international.

An oil refinery will always be useful, very useful. The Armenian energy sector will be one of the most developed and reliable ones in the entire Caucaus (and even in the entire Middle East).

In an oil refinery dozens of products are made. For example, after this we can make higher-quality of roads in Armenia, and cut the costs of the products used for road-construction, because we can make asphalt base ourselves.

We will have relatively cheap oil flowing from a pipeline from Iran to Armenia. Iran has enormous shortages of all kinds of oil products, including petrol (40% of the gasoline in Iran is being imported).

The energy sector is one of the most important sectors in the economy of a country and in this matter we can be happy by what is, and will be achieved within the coming years. It's just the basis for economic growth and development.

If the Turkish-Armenian border opens, the Armenian economy will explode in my opinion. Once Armenians get a stable connection to the world, for relativly fair prices (the transport costs in Georgia will significantly go down too), we will do what we do best, doing business.

Armenia will be:
- the most stable country in the Caucasus
- the country with the most highly developed energy sector
- the country with the highest level of intellectuals
- the country with the most highly developed tele(communications) sector
- the country with the most beautiful girls on earth

I hope and pray Muhaha jan that you and I will be wrong and Tigranakert will be right.

Tigranakert forgot one important factor; although I have always been in the Diaspora, but I always thought that dark haired, dark eyes, slightly olive coloured skin, rugged looking Armenian men are the handsomest on the face of the globe!

Work on Armenia-Iran Railway to Begin in April

YEREVAN (News.az)—Armenia is set to begin work, early-next year, on a large-scale project aimed at connecting Armenia and Iran through a north-south railway, according to Armenia’s Transport and Communications Minister Gurgen Sargsyan.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Sargsyan said, the first phase of the project will be a feasibility study, scheduled to begin in April 2010.

“An agreement to grant a loan of $ 1 million has been reached with the Asian Development Bank for implementation of the feasibility study of this project, an international tender for the provision of consulting services will be declared in early 2010 and we will begin the direct implementation of the feasibility study in the spring”, he said.

The minister said the project’s first phase will be carried out in two stages. The first will study whether the Yerevan-Ararat and Yerevan-Ashtarak passes are safe for railway travel; the second will begin work on restoring the aged Ashtarak-Gumri rail section; the third stage envisages construction of a new Goris-Kapan railroad.

According to Sargsyan, the government has registered a corporation, titled “Directions for Iran-Armenian railway construction,” to implement the project.

He added that Iran has demonstrated readiness to finance the project.

ARMENAL produced over 20,000 tons of foil



Within a year ARMENAL foil mill produced and sold over 20,000 tons of aluminium foil, nearly twice as much as last year.

In 2009 the mill significantly improved labour efficiency and almost doubled its productivity rate per employee. ARMENAL’s yield ratio, currently exceeding at 70%, stabilised, and the rate of production rejects fell to 3%, which is also the best figure ever achieved by the foil mill, the press release reads.

‘The modernized equipment and the improved professional skills of our staff helped the foil mill achieve good production results this year. Enhancement of the technological processes raised production efficiency and enabled the mill to fully meet its customers’ needs," said Alexander Burdin, Director of RUSAL’s Packaging Division.

Since January 2009, ARMENAL has fulfilled nearly 1,500 export orders and launched full-scale production of ultra-thin foil, which is designed for further gauging. Having improved the quality of foil roll cutting by upgrading the cutting plant, the foil mill has started to produce narrow-width 40-50 mm foil, which is in high demand in the global markets.

Founded in May 2000 in Erevan, Armenia, as part of the Kanaker aluminium smelter, ARMENAL is one of the largest industrial sites in Armenia and the only aluminium foil mill in the Caucasus and Central Asia. After joining RUSAL in 2000 the foil mill became part of the company’s Packaging Division, which also includes SAYANAL and Urals Foil.
