Fire breaks out at Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s military camp, an officer seriously injured

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov – APA. A fire broke out at the military camp in Azerbaijan. APA reports that the fire started at the Defense Ministry’s military camp in Zira.

Lieutenant of the army Khudatov Arif Yusif was injured in the fire. The officer was taken to Main Clinic Hospital of the Armed Forces.

Deputy chairman of Defense Ministry’s press service Teymur Abdullayev confirmed the fact to APA. He said he is in critical condition. The causes of the accident are being investigated.

Khudatov was drafted from Ganja city.

At his meeting with Ray Mabus, US Secretary of the Navy who was paying an official visit to Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, Minister of Defense noted the cooperation between the two countries develops at a significant pace and will be continuous in the year of 2013.
The delegation headed by Ray Mabus arrived in Armenia on October 28 and was hosted by Seyran Ohanyan at the Ministry of Defense the next day. At a joint press conference following the meeting the Minister of Defense expressed his gratitude for the visit and underlined the importance of the bilateral cooperation: 'In the scope of joint cooperation several high-level visits and consultations have been held. This particular visit affirms the high level of Armenia-US relationship and dynamic trends in further development. Our cooperation in the defense sector can be conditionally divided to two main dimensions: the first is the peacekeeping capability building, which includes not only actual participation in peacekeeping missions but also cooperation enhancement in the military medical sphere and humanitarian demining: and the second direction is the defense reforms in military education and trainings, development of professional NCO system, and the improvement of the human resources management system, and in all these initiatives we enjoy also the assistance of the US Marine Corps that incidentally is subordinate to the U.S. Secretary of the Navy ”said the Minister.
Ray Mabus, U.S. Secretary of the Navy expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and noted that the United States values its relations with Armenia very much which is evidenced by the visits of the US senior military officials to Armenia and the visit of the Armenian Defense Minister to the Secretary of Defense in Washington. “I want to commend the forces here for their very valuable work in peacekeeping operations both in Kosovo and in Afghanistan. And the minister has been a strong voice for professionalism for reform, and for planning to increase the capabilities and the capacities for the Armenian Armed Forces. And the American Navy and American Marine Corps have been glad to work with the Minister, with the Armenian Armed Forces on the defense strategic planning and on exercises that we have conducted together over the past two years and we are planning for more of these in the future” said Ray Mabus and added that: “US Marine Corps particular, through its Black Sea Rotational Force in 2012 did a number of exercises with the Armed Forces of Armenia.”

I remember those roads well they scare the crap out of anyone driving along the mountain cliffs especialy in the winter. Some of them only have room for one car so if you going one way and the other guy is coming at you you will either have a head on collision or one of you has to drive backwards a long way.

Yeah... sad. Could have been even worse but still.

Rail link between Georgia and Abkhazia may be reopened, if political decision made

YEREVAN, November 2. /ARKA/. The rail link between Georgia and Abkhazia may be reopened, if a political decision is made, Sergey Harutyunyan, chief engineer at the South Caucasus Railways CJSC, said Friday in Novosti International Press Center.

This transportation link is strategically important to Armenia, since this is the shortest and cheapest way to Russia.

“As I know from media reports, Russia has financed the repair of the Abkhazian section,” he said.

The railway in Abkhazia functions transporting people and goods to Russia and back, and the railway section between Armenia and Georgia operating without problems as well.

In recent days, Paata Zakareishvili, Georgia’s new reintegration minister, said that Georgian authorities are willing to resume rail communication with Russia as part of the Abkhazia unblocking strategy.
