If i were you i would stop believing what the azeri news has to say because its pretty obvious its just anti-Armenian bullxxxx. For example like the March incident. Whats worse having a riot or attacking another country? think about it. Which is more likely: We attacked so we can make everyone think Armenia attacked another country, or azerbaijan saw there was turmoil in the country and tried to take advantage of it and take land from Artsakh.

Also like some said in previous posts, the azeris cant back up there claims. You guys reported 6 Armenians were killed, then you post a picture of a dead Georgian, who was killed during the August war with Russia, as evidence. If there were 6 soldiers killed where are there bodies? Then you report 12 Armenians died, yet again where is the evidence? The video just showed azeris running around, then a clip of a watch thats typical azeri evidence.

Baku doesn’t realize that it will be a loser in case of starting war now, expert told today a seminar-discussion devoted to “Armenian-Turkish Diplomacy: Deal or no deal”. “Our army today is more professional and better prepared than Azerbaijani army. Armenia’s Defense Ministry is preparing for future challenges from now on, and it is necessary to underline that our army is currently the most powerful in the region,” Giragosyan said.

Commenting upon Baku’s bellicose statement, expert stressed that Azerbaijan’s military rhetoric produced negative impact not only on the atmosphere in the region but also Azeri soldiers themselves. Grigoryan believes that Armenia cannot control such statements but is at least obliged to make relevant response.

Call of Duty: A quarter of conscript age youths in Armenia dodge army



A senior ministry official in charge of army draft says up to a quarter of all available reserves dodge conscription. Colonel Gagik Harutyunyan, however, argues this is still a 50 percent improvement in conscription rates as compared to previous years.

Days before the start of this year’s autumn conscription (officially launching November 9), the head of the Conscription Department at the Defense Ministry’s Republican Military Registration and Enlistment Office presented preparations for the process and challenges faced by military authorities this year.

At a press conference Thursday, Colonel Harutyunyan, in particular, said that all corresponding state departments and bodies have been instructed to organize the autumn draft on a proper level.

Among the objective concerns is that the main conscription target group this year are young men born in 1991 – the year known for great political upheavals and social hardships that also saw a decline in birth rate in Armenia.

Harutyunyan expressed some concerns that “the difficult years for the country at that time may have also affected the people born then.”

“The paramount objective of all of us is that sick people should not appear in the army. The army is a place that needs sick young men least of all,” Harutyunyan underlined. “However, such controversial cases still exist in the Armenian army.”

Harutyunyan said that doctors and officials in charge of the draft have their share of responsibility in these mishaps and should be held accountable for that, but he did not elaborate on how many of them have actually been called to account.

The official also downplayed concerns that conscription this year has been made difficult because of the low level of male births in 1991, incidentally the year when Armenia gained independence.

He said a large number of army reserve servicemen are willing to join the army on a contractual bases after completing compulsory military service. This process, according to the colonel, is organized simultaneously with the conscription to compulsory military service.

Harutyunyan, meanwhile, said that fewer people evade military service today than it was in the past because of the “stable army”.

The colonel also presented “objective” reasons for draft-dodging in Armenia.

Thus, he said, many Armenians leave for other countries in search of livelihood and take their families, including boys, with them. So, Harutyunyan explained, when these boys turn 18 and fail to report to military authorities because of being physically absent from the country they automatically become draft dodgers.

(Also this week, the Prosecutor-General has instructed prosecutors all over Armenia not to arrest and prosecute young men who have so far evaded military service but will volunteer to join the army this year).


During the spring draft this year 113 such dodgers and 202 young men left outside registration returned and reported for military service, according to the official.

Harutyunyan also said that no one has applied for alternative military service ahead of the autumn conscription.

“There were cases when some stressed in their applications that they wanted alternative civil service rather than alternative military or labor service, which is not provided under our legislation,” the official explained.

Harutyunyan denied the recent talk that changes have been made in the law on military obligation under which all young men aged 18, regardless of their student status, would be made subject to conscription.

The colonel would not be drawn on discussion of whether there are homosexuals or sects in the army or whether some would pretend to be homosexuals to avoid conscription.

“An Armenian man has not yet lost the shame to pose as a homosexual to avoid serving in the army,” Harutyunyan stressed.

Previously, Azerbaijan, unlike Armenia and Georgia, which are in the list of European countries, was placed in the list of Asian countries. Now the weather in Azerbaijan is simply impossible to check on the web-site, since Azerbaijan is not there.

Naturally, such an event could not leave indifferent some Azerbaijani media, which, as usual, announced a nationwide campaign to "restore the geographic justice”.
