I think I had heard awhile back that at least some of those SCUDs were pointing at the BTC pipeline.

It has been ratified! The part in bold is very interesting.

ARMENIA: LAWMAKERS DEBATE WHETHER YEREVAN SHOULD DEFEND RUSSIA?
      2/23/10

The Armenian parliament ratified the creation of a rapid reaction force under the auspices of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization. But the legislative debate in Yerevan proved contentious, with opposition leaders expressing concern about the possibility of Armenian involvement in a potential regional conflict.

Parliament endorsed the creation of the CSTO rapid reaction force on February 23, a day that, during the Soviet era, was celebrated as armed forces day. For Armenia, the merits of membership in the Moscow-led defense pact include discounted access to Russian weapons and protection against neighboring Azerbaijan’s potential attempts to retake the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh enclave by force.

But some lawmakers warned during the ratification debate that the rapid reaction force agreement, which was agreed to during a CSTO meeting last year in Moscow, could potentially embroil Yerevan in a conflict. Opposition MPs pointed out that pact provisions would require Yerevan to keep secrets from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and would potentially set Armenia against neighboring Georgia, which fought a brief and disastrous war against Russia in 2008.

Stepan Safarian, head of the opposition Heritage Party’s parliamentary faction, said that the agreement obliges Armenia to take a military action against Georgia on Russia’s behalf in the event of a repeat in hostilities between Tbilisi and Moscow, Russia’s RIA-Novosti news agency reported on February 23.

Vardan Aivazian, a member of the governing Republican Party, responded that the Kremlin should expect military support from Armenia in return for Moscow’s protection, the Novosti Armenia news service reported.

Armenia is the only CSTO member in the South Caucasus; it is sandwiched between NATO-member Turkey and NATO-aspirant Georgia.

The CSTO also includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

RA NA ratified agreement on creation of CSTO KSOR

RA Parliament ratified agreement on creation of CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force (KSOR). The agreement, reached in Moscow last June aimed at uniting CSTO states’ efforts to repel armed attacks.

In the course of discussions, Armenian MPs put particular emphasis on the fact whether CSTO will react to possible aggression against Armenia by Azerbaijan. Chairman of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Rustamyan expressed confidence that it will do so in any case. According to him, the agreement will be sort of “strait jacket” for those who will venture upon a violence against Armenia.

“Though NKR is not a CSTO member, presumably in case of threat from Azerbaijan, CSTO will respond as the aggression against NKR is against Armenia,” Rustamyan said. However, Heritage Party members did not share his opinion, saying that in case of violence against both NKR and Armenia, CSTO will sit on the fence.

I think Russia will support Armenia in case of azeri aggression, but I wouldn't count on the stans or Belarus. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't bring their troops to the region without Russia's help, and consent.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

Armenia has been a member of CSTO, they make it sound like is something new. All members are supposed to help if anyone of these countries enters a conflict, which is a given.

Wasn’t there a rapid reaction force training at the Turkish border back in 2005?................the Russian and Armenian military exercises simulating a Turkish invasion and how they would respond and eventually surround them (live fire exercise), it even included Armenian SU-25s and Russian MIG-29s.

I actual look forward to Azeris buying those expensive weapons since we will be the ones using them a short while after they flee the battlefield. Azeris are one of the worst fighters on the earth, We should never be intimidated by them.

Well that could mean attacking Georgia, which we would/should never do.

At this point we shouldn't do it. In the future, as Russia increases its hold over georgia, this will change and we will be able to be more forceful with georgians and their anti-Armenian policies vis a vis Javakh.

But also enough is enough. How much more can we quarrel with our neighbors?
