Stepanavan airport will be renovated in 2014

This is good especially access to civilian flights.......plus it is important to have as many airfields operational with services like fuel, transit parking, a terminal, controlled tower, food, etc..
also additional operational airports with suitable runways can be used as an alternate landing site in case of bad weather will not allow getting into destination airport or a diversion due to an inflight emergency to closest airport.

in 2016 they say it will open up.....do we know of any work in progress going on at Goris airport to meet this deadline? I am sure at a minimum the runway needs renovation and the flightline setup with fuel pits/trucks, let alone civilian amenities.
You are right Fed, the strategic location of the field screams about its importance in military operations.....amazing it has not already been put as a priority.

All I cam say is that if they are going to put the effort in this airport then they better do it right and setup an instrument runway with radar....and smart base of operations.
I can't find any old info on the airport when it was operational such as runway length, landing weight limitation, field elevation, com frequencies, identifier, etc

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. The population of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic rose by 8139 people in 2013, APA reports quoting website of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

As for January 1, 2014, the population of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic reached 435 367.

Պաշտպանության բանակը հաղորդագրությամբ անդրադարձել է հունվարի 19-ի լույս 20-ի գիշերը հայ-ադրբեջանական զորքերի շփման գծի հյուսիսարևելյան և հարավարևելյան սահմանահատվածում արձանագրված դիվերսիոն գործողություններով մեկնարկած լարվածությանը։

Ըստ ՊԲ-ի՝ Ադրբեջանն անցած օրերին հայկական զինուժի դիրքապահների ուղղությամբ տարբեր տրամաչափի հրաձգային զինատեսակներ է կիրառել, առաջնագծի մի շարք հատվածներ էր դուրս բերել որոշակի քանակությամբ ծանր զրահատեխնիկա։

Այս ընթացքում Պաշտպանության բանակն ունեցել է երկու կորուստ։ Նույն ժամանակահատվածում ադրբեջանական բանակը տվել է 8 զոհ, երկու տասնյակից ավելի վիրավոր և որոշ քանակությամբ հատուկ նշանակության սպառազինություն, տեղեկացնում են ՊԲ-ից:

Միաժամանակ հակաօդայինները առաջնային գծից շուրջ 30-35 կմ հեռավորության վրա՝ Ադրբեջանի օդային տարածքում, հավաստանշել են հակառակորդի օդուժի ուսումնամարտական թռիչքներ և հետևել դրանց ուղերթին մինչև վայրեջք։

ՊԲ-ն հավելում է, որ չնայած առաջնային գծում լարվածության պահպանմանն ուղղված ադրբեջանական կողմի փորձերին, այդուհանդերձ, արձանագրված փաստերից կարելի է եզրակացնել, որ Պաշտպանության բանակի առաջապահ ուժերը շարունակում են հանդես գալ թելադրողի դերում և հարկ եղած դեպքում իրենց կամքը պարտադրել հակառակորդին:

ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարարի առաջին տեղակալ Դավիթ Տոնոյանն ընդունել է Հայաստանում Մեծ Բրիտանիայի և Հյուսիսային Իռլանդիայի Միացյալ Թագավորության արտակարգ և լիազոր դեսպան Ջոնաթան Էյվսին և ռազմական կցորդ, փոխգնդապետ Նիք Վիլքսին, ում նստավայրը Թբիլիսին է։
Քննարկվել են երկկողմ համագործակցության հարցեր

Հանդիպմանը անդրադարձ է եղել երկու երկրների պաշտպանության նախարարությունների միջև իրականացվող մի շարք երկարատև ծրագրերին, մասնավորապես` բրիտանական խորհրդատվական աջակցությանը 2013 թվականի դեկտեմբերից Հայաստանում մեկնարկած Պաշտպանության ռազմավարական երկրորդ շրջափուլին և հայկական զինուժի պրոֆեսիանալ սերժանտական համակարգի ներդրման գործընթացներին, Բրիտանական ուսումնական հաստատություններում և վարժական կենտրոններում հայ զինծառայողների կրթությանն ու վերապատրաստմանը։

Տոնոյանը նշեց, որ բիտանացի գործընկերների հետ Հայաստանի պաշտպանության նախարարությունը երկարամյա համագործակցության փորձ ունի և պատրաստվում է էլ ավելի խորացնել այդ համագործակցությունը, ինչին ի պատասխան բրիտանական կողմը հաստատեց Հայաստանի հետ համագործակցության զարգացման պատրաստակամությունը։

Կողմերը պայմանավորվեցին առաջիկայում նախաձեռնել համագործակցության նոր ծրագրեր։
