If u talk about our T55 than we have only 12 of them in service, and they are not for war but only trainings, when azeris got 100 of them, but again, not in service.
We dont have T80s

It is from the same source as the 300 tank thing. I wonder where they got those numbers...Also, is this not a T80? Doesnt look like its a T72A....

The number 12 is what is declared by the government. We all know what the government declares is probably the exact opposite of the truth in regards to quantity of military equipment, but I am speculating. Again what I'm saying about the t-55's is a speculation but I really doubt we throw anything useful away and I've seen many videos during the war of T-55's. A lot of them.

About the T-80. This post is three years old.

The last photo is an T-80...

The T-80 in the picture is a BV variant. Also the list of arms shipped from Moldova to us a year ago showed the 9M112 Kobra on it. Unless were operating T-64's as well why would we buy it.

The Armenia-Azerbaijan military balance is getting a lot of scrutiny these days, and Jane's Intelligence Review has just published a good reported analysis (subscription required) by Emil Sanamyan that has a lot of interesting points. Among them:

-- "Upon closer inspection, Azerbaijan's purported 'military budget' incorporates not just the paramilitary forces outside the Ministry of Defence but also state prosecutors and even courts, with an apparent intention to inflate the overall figure for propaganda effect."

-- "The combined Armenian and Nagorno-Karabakh defence army total is estimated by Jane's to be around 300 T-72s, considerably larger than the 110 officially declared by Yerevan. Azerbaijan is thought to maintain around 350 to 400 T-72s... Baku has declared only 217 tanks, although it it likely that this figure was designed to appear under the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) treaty ceiling of 220."

Well, its nice to know we have T80BVs...I guess we can also add 1 T90 to that list lol


I think now I know why we dont invest so heavily in tanks. I guess, for now, we have plenty. We also have the possible PT-72U (Or, was that just a silly rumor???) upgrades. I guess its time to start heavily investing more into our infantry. Helmets, drop pouches, kneepads...(Trust me, you need kneepads..It may sound silly and unnecessary, but in combat, especially with 400+ meter engagements, you do alot of crouching, and laying down. In Artsakh, that will be killer on our boy's knees and elbows.) maybe even better body armor. What do you guys think our boy's use? Steel? I doubt we use anything fancy.

The PT-72 seemed like it was about to happen, but once Armenia announced it would not be joining the European trade block Poland quickly announced the deal was just a romor. It seems it was a bargaining chip or bait for Armenia not to join the Russain led Eurasian Economic Union.

I couldn't agree more with the importance to kneepads and I'm still amazed at why they haven't been introduced. Imagine how cheap you could get them from China in bulk. Another extremely cheap but important gear that hasn't been introduced is goggles. With the amount of artillery that going to be used, there's going to be a lot of dust and gravel flying around. I almost want to get a pot going with all the wealthy Armenians that live in my area, I'm sure we could get enough money together for thousands of goggles, kneepads and elbow pads. I don't know were to start, or if anyone would take me seriously. So cheap...

I'm not sure on plates. I think there was a post with someone mentioning a plant was going to be organized to produce ceramic plates but I can remember. I have no info on what is being used now. Burjuin might know, seems like he is in the military. Maybe he's not at liberty to say.

Agreed, goggles are important, but Id see that as a secondary priority. As not all AOs are going to be filled with dust and debris...What I think we will be seeing ,especially in a renewed war..is volunteer battalions. Similar to the Ukrainian ones...just not filled with nutty fascists...Perhaps we could be seeing a Dashnak battalion, or something along those lines.
Knee pads are pretty cheap, even American ones. 20-25 dollars a pair. Even cheaper if bought from Russia or China. Around 100 thousand pairs of the aforementioned price would only cost about 2.5 million dollars. That could be included in the maintenance sub-budget for the military. Helmets are extremely important as well..We are already seeing more and more Russian helmets with regular units. I dont think Ive seen a soviet era tin pot on an Armenian soldier for a while now...Looks like Russo-Georgian war era helmets we seem to be getting, but I cant properly ID em. Our own helmets? Who knows. I also heard about a proposal made to the government, that suggests the investment in and the creation of a military manufacturing sector. IT would create tons of jobs, new service rifles, equipment, uniforms. We would become less dependent on free Russian-Soviet stuff. Can't seem to remember where I saw it..

Armenian and Russian troops hold joint military drills

YEREVAN. – Servicemen of Russian military base and Armenian armed fores are holding joint military exercise at the Alagyaz polygon.

Over 1,500 servicemen and 300 pieces of equipment are involved in the military drills, the Southern Military District press service said.

The drills led by General Lieutenant Mikhail Grigoryan will last till September 7.
