Probably not. It was most likely a PR move, although I wouldnt rule it out. We most likely are acquiring ballistic missiles, which will act as a permanent deterrent for Aliyev.

See, they announce their "interest" for these things, but never follow through with, well any of it. They mostly spend money an armored cars, MLRS', and helicopters.

Որակավորման շնորհման նպատակն է բացահայտել զիված ուժերի առավել պատրաստականություն ունեցող զինծառայողներին, հատուկ առաջադրանքների միջոցով բարձրացնել նրանց մարտավարամասնագիտական ունակությունները, տեսական ու գործնական գիտելիքները, մեթոդական պատրաստության մակարդակը, կատարելագործել գործնական կարողությունները մարտական խնդիրների պլանավորման, կազմակերպման և իրականացման ուղղությամբ, պատրաստել զինծառայողներին արտակարգ իրավիճակներում ինքնուրույն մարտական խնդիրներ կատարելուն, զարգացնել արգելքների հաղթահարման և վճռական գործողությունների կատարման ունակությունները:
Ստուգատեսի ընթացքում նախատեսված էին օդադեսանտային պատրաստության վերգետնյա պարապմունքներ, պարաշյուտային թռիչքներ, վարժություններ կրակային պատրաստության` նախնական հրաձգության և ստուգողական հրաձգության պարապմունքեր, զենքի քանդման-հավաքման վարժություններ, արգելագոտու հաղթահարում, որի միջոցով ստուգվում է զինծառայողների ֆիզիկական պատրաստականության մակարդակը, վարժությունների կատարում ուղեկցված անսպասելի պայթյուններով, ուսումնական փամփուշտների միջոցով հրաձգությամբ և այլն: Մրցույթի ամփոփիչ փուլում նախատեսված էր երթարշավ արգելքների հաղթահարմամբ և լրիվ հանդերձավորմամբ: Երթարշավի ընթացքում մասնակիցներին տրվել են անսպասելի առաջադրանքներ` ջրային գոտու, թունավոր նյութերով վարակված տարածքի հաղթահարում և այլն:
Հոկտեմբերի 4-ին կայացել է «Դյուցազն» որակավորման կարգի շնորհման համաբանակային մրցույթի վերջին` «Ուսումնական մենամարտ» փուլն ու մրցույթի փակման հանդիսավոր արարողությունը:
Ստուգատեսի եզրափակիչ փուլի ընթացքին հետևել և մասնակիցներին ողջունել են ՀՀ պաշտպանության նախարար Սեյրան Օհանյանն ու ԶՈւ ԳՇ պետ, գեներալ-գնդապետ Յուրի Խաչատուրովը:
Եզրափակիչ փուլի ավարտին հաջորդել է վկայականների հանձնման հանդիսավոր արարողությունը: 17 զինծառայողներ պաշտպանության նախարար Սեյրան Օհանյանի կողմից ստացել են վաստակած պարգևը` «Դյուցազն» որակավորման կարգը:
Շնորհավորելով զինծառայողներին և Զինված ուժերի ղեկավարության անունից երախտագիտություն հայտնելով անձնվեր ծառայության համար` պաշտպանական գերատեսչության ղեկավարը նշել է, որ իրականում հաղթողներ և պարտվողներ չկան, քանի որ մրցույթին մասնակցությունն արդեն իսկ վկայում է զինծառայողների մարտավարամասնագիտական բարձր կարողությունների մասին: Սեյրան Օհանյանը նաև հույս է հայտնել, որ «Դյուցազն» որակավորում ստացած զինծառայողների օրինակը վարակիչ կլինի մյուսների համար:

The Russian air force has decorated three of its MiG-29 fighter jets based in Armenia with images of medieval Christian saints. "The pilots are sure that the faces of the holy men on the fuselages of the military machines will not only protect them, but will strengthen their martial spirit," the press service of the Southern Military District announced.

One can't help but notice that the three heroes so honored -- Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, and St. Mercurius of Smolensk -- are known for their struggles and martyrdom fighting against the Tatar-Mongol yoke.

"The earthly journey of Prince Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, and the martyr Mercurius of Smolensk was marked with military glory and honor and they became Christian saints. The pilots consider them to be their heavenly protecters," the Russian military announcement continued.

Dmitry Donskoy is best known for his victory in the Battle of Kulikovo, a decisive moment in Russia's throwing off Mongol rule. Russian forces in that battle were famously inspired by an icon of Alexander Nevsky. And Mercurius was martyred after an icon of the Virgin Mary instructed him to attack the forces of Batu Khan which were nearing Smolensk.

That sort of historical reference may gladden the hearts of the MiGs' Armenian hosts, whose enemy, Azerbaijan, are kin to the Tatars. But one wonders how it will be received by Russia's Turkic Muslim allies in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Regrettably, the press service didn't release any photos of the decorated planes.

CSTO approves project to form Collective Air Forces

CSTO approved a project to establish Collective Air Forces, Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper writes.

The number of aircraft from each country and location of bases is being specified. It was decided to submit the draft document to the statutory bodies of the organization, spokesperson for CSTO Vladimir Zaynetdinov told the newspaper.

CSTO members are Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia and Belarus.
