Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
Actually Iran will have to play 2 important roles in case of a possible war:
1. In case Georgia closes up its airspace in front of weapons supplies flying in from Russia, Iran will have to allow Russian planes to use its airspace to enter Armenia and deliver the much needed supplies
2. Presence of Iran might not allow the Azeris to make large moves from Karabakh's southern flank which is less mountainous. I don't think Iran would be too happy to see large Azeri troop movements few kms from its northern border. This would cause Azerbaijan to have limited access to our most vulnerable southern flank.
If Iran did want to get involved, I don't think it would be in the form of direct confrontation, but if they wanted they can let loose a few artillery rounds on moving azeri forces, under the alibi that they crossed the border...but with a much deeper message which says: "stay away from my northern areas, otherwise..."
