Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

What will a Yak-130 do against the current Azeri air defense? let alone the costs of maintaining them...i'd rather see this money spend on other equipment
Its time to upgrade our air force. A good amount of our tanks and apcs are modernized so its the air forces turn.

Armenia will finish the year with a debt of 4.9 billion dollars...that's around 40% of the GDP which will hopefully hit 11 billion this year. Somewhat acceptable.

The 200 million $ loan, if used appropriately, could significantly boost our capabilities if directed towards a single unit...like missile forces or air-defense. I know that idea of having jets is tempting but I would still argue that jets are going to be really costly for Armenia and strategically will not change anything in the balance of forces. I'd rather see that money being spent on either:

Air Defense: purchasing Buk or Pantsir units (or upgrading our S-125s to S-125 pechoras and OSA-AKAs to OSA-AKMs)
      Missile Forces: Tochka-U
Infantry: Anti-tank missiles and proper night vision and thermal vision equipment

I think this would make more sense than spending the 200mil on 10 Yak-130s that can be brought down like flies by azeri anti-aircraft systems or getting some downgraded 2nd hand MiG-29s that won't make any difference considering our enemy's airforce cannot operate over our skies as long as we upgrade and improve our air-defense systems.
Totally agree with this assessment. Maybe even Iskander instead of Tochka-U.

I know it hurts to say this but forget about air force beyond our Su-25s. Azerbaijan's air defence is simply too strong and it's simply too costly for us to maintain expensive jets. Our priority should be to make Artsakh a virtual no-fly zone for Azerbaijan's air force by focusing on defense. The next war will primarily will be a defensive war for us.

          I agree with this assessment.

What do you think about us taking Ganja? Its relatively close and it is a very important part of Azerbaijan. It would be a huge pullback on their side if we take it.

There's taking Ganja and then there's controlling Ganja. The latter is very hard to do with the manpower that Armenia currently has. Not to mention the political drawbacks of "occupying" an area far away from Artsakh. We should not forget that our overall objective is the liberation and defense of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic).

---- next war will "primarily" war ----
                Primarily yes and/or maybe.
Yes of course, we are not the aggressor.
No, we can not keep status quo if they attack us another time.
Our defense has already stated that's it's gonna cost them in more of their stolen land (AND) possibly loss of nationhood as they know it today.
If they attack us and start a war, this time we need to PERMENENTLY cripple them. We cannot afford any less.
If they (fkn criminals) start another war it's their LAST DANCE.
Insofar as not needing better aircraft ... Disagree.
I agree with assessment that our air defense is primary concern, but there is no substitute for air capability and what it can do in capable hands.
Insofar as their air defense capability ... We gotta take them out, period. RA defense already knows that. It's on the agenda for sure.

In above post, I meant to say "defensive war" in my first sentence.
About Yak 130 ... Looks to be an excellent trainer and with many of its sensor/avionics in the 4th/5th generation with again 4th/5th generation weapons and delivery, it's a sweet little rig.
It's not a lead in plane for sure but if skies are sanitized and air defense neutralized, it's highly capable and cost effective.
The modern Russian aircraft (fighter) has a dramatically reduced maintainence regime, and not nearly as expensive to keep.

There is no way you can make Artsakh a no fly zone with just anti-air defense system.......every modern Army needs a Airforce and it doesn't matter that we can't match jet to jet.
They easily can run bombing runs on civilians and cities and we can't stop them other than maybe shoot a few down. You ain't gonna shoot all of them down. say even half

Plus, we must take the fight to the enemy and not be stuck in Artsakh and defend it. Artsakh will be destroyed eveything we have built.

One thing we could use the YAK is for laser target designation.
It is dangerous work for our troops (SF) since they have to come within visual distance of the target and mark it with a laser dot. Now the YAK can fire a missile that will go directly to where the dot is. You can take out their air defense systems, send in the Tanks with troops and SU-25s.
Also the YAKs flying over artsakh and Armenia will maintain air superiority....unless the want to send in their Mig-29s. Then our Air defense system must kick in higher gear.
