That has been their tactic for a long time now. However, the difference here is that it's not a simple border skirmish involving snipers.

Azerbaijani troops ...firing howitzer shells at Armenian soldiers for the first time since a Russian-brokered truce stopped the war in Nagorno-Karabakh in 1994.

Until last year ceasefire violations in the Karabakh conflict zone took the form of periodical exchanges of automatic and sniper fire between the two warring sides and overnight incursions by their commando units. Over the past year, the Armenian side has accused the Azerbaijani army of increasingly resorting to mortar fire during skirmishes.

“The use of artillery by the Azerbaijani side … is yet another step towards full-scale hostilities,” warned the Armenian Defense Ministry.

The Armenian military pledged on Saturday to use heavier artillery against Azerbaijani troops after accusing them of firing howitzer shells at Armenian soldiers for the first time since a Russian-brokered truce stopped the war in Nagorno-Karabakh in 1994.

Basicly it said that they fired at us with tr107 and it shows a alleged video, from the azeris, showing the aftermath of an our artillery counter attack. Funny part is the narrator aknowledges that the posistions shelled by us, were where the turks launched their rockets, but it happened hours earlier. So it took us hours to hit back.

Now, withthe new rules of engagemnet commanders near the front won't have to get permition to use heavy weapons. Now were talking a couple minutes before we hit back.

Weird thing is one of the guys being interviews says we took no casualties.

No matter how hard you hit them, they won't stop, until you deal a striking blow that'll cripple their resolve. And that's gotta be done thru war, or continuous loss of territory--human life to them means nothing.
When you comit an act of revenge you do it out in the open for everyone to see. You dont do it in a dark corner. Also a disproportionate response to a helicopter shooting warrents something big. Killing a few soldiers isn't even proportionate to shooting down a helicopter. Anything disproportionate to a helicopter shootdown would be imposible to hide.
The MOD said they responded disproportionately but again, what kind of attack could have been disproportionate yet not visible. They were saving face.

The response were seeing now is visible and in the open. A change in the rules of engagment is a big deal. Something that should have happened last November. Im not going to dwell in the past but im relieved it finally happened.

This is oddly happening after that gandon activist ran to Azerbaijan and started crying for help and telling them our army is weak and can't fight.maybe baboons are testing us upon his words
