Regarding the purchases from russia,azerbaijan got the kornet, armenia got the metis-m and the milan atgms,armenia also got the igla-s (it was previously posted in this thread).regarding the tanks,azerbaijan's new shiny tanks will be sitting ducks in any battle against armenia, and we should not forget that armenian officials confirmed that armenia was modernising its tanks to the pt-72u twardy configuration with poland, regarding artillery and missiles,president sarkissian stated that armenia possesses missiles that have a range of MORE than 300kms and many articles surfaced indicating that armenia has purchased the iskander-m ballistic missile system,regarding the smerch systems,the armenian MoD refused to make any statements regarding the subject but said armenian forces are acquiring long range and precise missiles etc...

It is confirmed that we have AR1A, which is the Chinese version of the BM-30 Smerch, an improved one.

Those T-55s should be converted to heavy APCs! We could move more freely in heavy fire in the Tavush region and at a more mobile element to the line as opposed to be sitting ducks in the trenches.

MOD should also consider raising specialized battalions:
-Cyber warfare battalion to hack the xxxx out of the Azeris
-Military Police battalion to make sure hazing is ended
-Military Intelligence battalion to interpret the economic,political, military, social structures going on
-Public Relations battalion that promotes the Armenian military
-Civilian Coordination battalion that is responsible to coordinate military activity with civil society

Having a military with specialists is one of the ways that makes the West successful in warfare. It can also be a good employment opportunity for 2-3000 citizens and a way to promote enlistment into the military in non-combat roles that are essential today.

I assume a fighter jet acquisition would be a lot harder to keep quiet than SAMs or tanks, for the simple reason that you need to train with them to be of any use, and a country as small as Armenia, there's not a lot of places you can go and not be seen.

Walking around Yerevan you can clearly recognize the Russian Mig-29's fighters training above Yerevan out of Erebuni.

But anyway, I wouldn't get too excited since its only one news outlet reporting it, which i'd never heard of before, and they cite no sources. What's the reputation of the site, anyone familiar with it?

Are you saying that there has been a comparable spending by Armenia? There has been transfer of second-hand S-300 systems from Russian army stocks, delivery of a battalion (31 units) of T-72 and some BTR-70/80. Probably also some howitzer cannons such as D-30 or D-20.

Azerbaijan's purchase of Russian arms includes a broad list of various types of weaponry.

S-300PMU2, the latest of S-300P family. These are not even slightly comparable to S-300s in Armenian inventory.
Mi-35M/Mi-17. Mi-35M are vastly improved over older hinds, with modern sighting systems, use of more improved AT missiles, shorter wing & fixed landing gear, more powerfull engine and rotors of Mi-28, which greately enchantes its flight performance.
T-90S (Azerbaijani version are improved over Russian T-90A in certain aspects, a newer model of Shtora, automatic target tracking capability, AC), Azerbaijan also purchased armored bridge layers and engineering vehicles based on T-90S.

Smerch
Msta-S self-propelled howitzer, 2S31 Vena self-propelled gun/mortar system

Azerbaijan has also bought hundreds of 120mm 2S12A Sani mortars, Igla-S MANPADs & Kornet AT missiles.

There were significant contracts with other countries as well, in particular Israel, including for the needs of ground forces (artillery systems including guided rocket artillery, Spike AT missiles etc).

Before I break everything down for you, there's one logical question you can ask yourself: If Azerbaijan had the military superiority to do anything, why would it not have done anything during the last two/three years, given the prior knowledge that this was its military peak due to its budgetary advantage being as great as it was ever going to be, given the upcoming decline of oil production (not price). The answer? Azerbaijan never had a military advantage

the policies of Azerbaijan and Armenia are very different in regards to weapons acquisition. Since about 1998, there were reports that Armenia possessed the S-300. In 2006 it was pretty much an open secret. Yet Armenia waited until 2012 to reveal it during a parade. For about three years there's been rumors of Armenia having the Iskandar. If we do, you probably won't hear about it until 2021. I've personally seen photos of a particular weapon that Armenia has, that my friend took without permission in Karabakh, that he held on to despite being ordered to delete. This particular weapon, there aren't even rumors of Armenia possessing it. Obviously, since this is an open forum, I can't be specific. The point being, Armenia reveals 10% of what it has, and Azerbaijan reveals 200% of what it might have in five years.


Also, what your country does, is buy multiple weapons of the same class/purpose and same level of capability. Almost like a child on a shopping spree. Massive Armies like that of China or Russia might have three variants of some weapon while Azerbaijan has eight. All of this is part of the structural issues in your army. So even if there's an arms advantage, doesn't mean there's a military advantage.

Saudi Arabia on paper has 10X the army Iran has. Yet, in a full scale war, I think everyone would agree that Iran would overrun Saudi Arabia in a heartbeat, because of iran's level of motivation and organization.

Also a lot of the weapons your country bought was meant for Iran, and not Armenia.

Finally, its a basic fact that the level of corruption is much higher in your country, and hence a much larger portion of your budget goes into people's pockets than ours.

and this was all while your country was on top of the world with a budget 8X ours and oil was flowing endlessly. Now that the oil is drying up, and not mention has become worthless, when your military budget is just 2.5X ours, its a very different world.

we have only 12 T54/55 and in photos looks like they are on their way to Yerevan, those tanks were only in training battalions so i think now they will shape out from service totally.

i wonder how we are getting those jets,we are going to spend serious percent of our budget to get small number of them. We also need to build and repair our airports

I read some articles saying that armenia purchased the ar-1a but it is yet to be confirmed,perhaps if you can get a source or something,it'll be great
