    Countries much smaller than Armenia.

If we keep saying Armenia is a small country, we're not going to get something every air force needs, air-superiority fighters.

They will be used to intercept/bomb, rather than long missions.

my opinion on having an airforce is pretty clear...i have always been with better anti aircraft systems as azerbaijan doesn't have a serious airforce for us to spend few hundred millions to get jets against.

I always like to mention that properly maintaining those jets and purchasing smart equipment for them will cost us more and more millions every year as compared to getting porper AA systems as Buks or Tunguskas that cost less to maintain and do the required job.

HOWEVER, i do agree greatly with armnuke, that we need to get this "small country" mentality out of our heads. We're a fairly good country in terms of size (specially considering our population number).

Once you get the jets, with good mechanics that we are, we will keep it in top shape but we need bunkers and maintenance hangers. It is a great investments for future far beyond Azeris. the AA is constantly changing and the old ones become scrap metal. A fighter jet will serve you for many years and be updated as cost allows. It will save many Armenian lives on the battlefield and can send Azerbaijan to stone age.

Personally, I don't think we're paying for the SU-30SMs, and if we're paying, I believe it's much lower than the original price.
Given the current situation between Russian and Turkey, Russia is arming its allies. It has deployed T-90 tanks in Syria and I don't think the Syrian government has the capability to pay for weapons right now.

Armenia is to be supplied with refurbished Il-76 and Su-30SM aircraft alongside armored vehicles, artillery and missiles from Russia. The news follows this week’s Armenian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation which discussed further bilateral trade and...

And it was posted on news.am but then it was removed, but it doesn't make sense because as you stated earlier brother mher, armenia is a small country and the su-30sm is a long range multirole fighter.anyways let's keep our hopes hight and wish for the best
Su 30 (SM !!!) is not limited to long range.
Our govt does not want to raise tensions (or brag).
Unless I'm mistaken and that does happen sometimes (lol), east turcee has mig 29 as its premier plane.
Su 30 SM flys circles around those planes and can handle at least 3-4 simultaneously. At the very least.
The power difference between the two planes is enormouse. The su 27 is legendary for its agility, easily matching the mig 29 in handling and flat swamping it in power. The su 30 is even more agile than the 27 + has better slow speed handling. But the su 30 sm is way past both. Electronics is off the charts and to top it off the su 30 sm has TVN.
The 27, 30, and 30 sm are all the same plane but the 30 model has for planes.
Except for stealth advantage the su 30 sm can match up with raptor or exceed f22 on every parameter.
Forgot to follow up on our govt not wishing to raise tension or strut like monkee. My guess iss 90% or more of training is done in the big private sky's of Russia and except for orientation to our location and public confidence building they won't be seen much.
Google the Indian airforce embarrassing Britain /USA with their su 30 mki. It was silly. The su 30 sims identicle but significantly better. It's the su 30 mki but built for Russia, with the very latest improvements in electronic and avionics.
The long distance capability can translate into great sustained fly time or several missions without refueling.
Those are truly some of the best planes built to date.

The bunkers are also needed for our current SU-25s.
Concrete and building material is easy in Armenia..lots of builders, and lots of material.

              Great!

I never heard you people discuss Aviation this much. If you do not know where the aviation threads, they are in General News.

Forgot to mention maintainence . It's a whole new ball game with these jets and all future Russian fighter planes. The new engines/electronics has dramatically reduduces maintainence time/cost. Dramatically.

Well i don't know russian but this photo seems legitimate and reliable, considering armenia already has the pechora 2m(its photos were previously posted on this thread)so i think that the ar-1a is already present in armenia and will be shown in the 2016 parade
