Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

You must've read that on wikipedia...i highly doubt it,in fact armenia has never had a deal involving arms with israel...so it's unlikely to happen, for the record,i'm pretty sure we won't need MORTARS from israel, for close range armenia has that armenian made MLRS and russian mortars

It is about the (1) old
Old makes no difference as long as the aircraft its maintained per the maintenance manual and any potential problem areas found in the field or reported by the authorities and the manufacturer. In fact older aircraft have had all their gremlins worked out of it. New aircraft or new systems could cause many problems until they are fixed. Look at the B52......still flies and still in service by military.

        (2) worn out
Again, we do not threat aircraft like cars......you can't just pull over and open the hood in flight. Maintenance guys will replace any worn out areas per allowances in the manual. For example a play of 0.03 inchs is considered worn under normal wear and tear as inpections come up per flight hours. These all get addressed by ground crew. Constructive input from the pilot helps alot in troubleshooting and following the correct procedures to correct the problem....no band aid.

        (3) outdated components of the mig 29..
Russians in Armenia have been flying the older Mig29 (not outdated, no such thing on the Mig29) for years......sometimes less technology and no reliance on sophisticated systems can be an advantage.

The Slovak govt isn't retiring these planes for no reason, but rather because everything on plane needs replacing.
if the aircraft are unairworthy there is no way anyone will by it. again, send your hotshot Lead to inspect the aircraft before sell.

Well trained maintainence crews won't change the fact these planes need a total overhaul with many upgrades
All combat jets go through a Depot level overhaul, inspections, all skin pulled back, wings removed, etc.......normally this happenes after certain flight hours like 2000 hrs. That is a long time for a jet so those hours will be in the negotiation.

or they are --- old junk ---.
That old junk will fly circles around most fighter jets.

The only skill that's going to change that is the skill of modernization. The Russians have the new engines and technologies to do that, but I think it costs more like 30 million $$. Not two million $$.
Russia will sell us identicle mig 29s for $5 if we sign a contract to upgrade them.
It would be a big waste of manpower/money to maintain those planes ... Hence retirement.
2 million $$ for those planes is not a good deal when it costs at least two score of millions to bring them into the operable range.
I know mig 29 sounds alluring, but 2 or 3 or more times the cost and time to keep repairing old stuff compared to the right stuff is --- no fly ---. And even then, we would still be flying outdated stuff.
Tanks and migs are not good analogy.
They will do us no good but will bleed us to death.
Sorry, all your figures are wrong......the cost of maintaining, operating a Mig29 is not that bad at all. We dont need the sofistications and little more powerful engines. The airframe its still the original Mig29.

Mig 29s are designed and built for ease of maintenance and good access to all equipment, components, actuators, electronic and weapons systems.

To this debate I'd like to add that Slovakia may be retiring its Mig 29 fleet because of being a member of NATO. There could be a large political component in this which is a determining factor.
As a member of NATO abviousely relations with Russia are strained, so supply of components for maintenance is limited. Also, big players like USA, Germany, England and France probably are pushing Slovakia in transforming its fleet from Sovied to NATO equipment.
If those Mig s are worthy or not, our specialists will figure out 100%.
Also it has to work with Armenia's military doctrine and planning before concisidering buying them.
          Regardless...
This Migs could be good stuff.
Not necessary to compare them to NATO planes, but in Caucasus theater they could be a factor. That includes against Turkish F16 s.

They are selling them to buy Swedish SAAB Gripen..obviously for NATO integration purposes.

At this rate, we're losing more men to car accidents than to combat.
We should seriously scrutinize the driver selecting process.
                    This is totally unacceptable.
