Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
Took a random photo of a plane passing by when I was on my land in Armavir a bit ago.
There's a weird balloon-like thing in the photo. I know in Lebanon Israel used similar looking things for spying purposes.
Now this got me thinking..or it's just that I'm paranoid.

Karabakh lost 800 ha of land that played no strategic role: Armenia
May 17, 2016 - 14:41 AMT
PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian side that controls some 800,000 hectares of land as a “safety zone” around Nagorno Karabakh lost some 800 hectares (around 8 km squares) in the course of the 4-day hostilities unleashed by Azerbaijan in early April, President Serzh Sargsyan said Tuesday, May 17.
According to the him, those 800 hectares have no tactical or strategic importance.
“From the psychological viewpoint, Azerbaijanis can convince their people that they have achieved something, but at least one soldier was killed and two more wounded for gaining control over just one hectare of land,” Sargsyan said.
“The Armenian forces were capable of restoring the status quo, but the question is whether it’s worth such major losses.”
“The lives of our soldiers and officers matter to me a lot,” Sargsyan added, urging all the “advisors” to go to the frontline, assess the situation and understand the difference between a meter of land and a human being.
“Years ago, I set a clear task for our armed forces and the security agency to prevent any disruption or destruction of our security system. The latest developments displayed Azerbaijan’s failure,” he said.

PanARMENIAN.Net - President Serzh Sargsyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev participated in a Vienna-hosted meeting on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement on Monday, May 16.
The summit was the first one since the escalation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.
Also attending the meeting were the foreign policy chiefs of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries - Russia, France and the United States - Sergey Lavrov, Jean-Marc Ayrault and John Kerry, as well as French Secretary of State for European Affairs Harlem Desir.
Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian and Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minsk Group Co-chairs - James Warlick of the United States, Igor Popov of Russia, Pierre Andrieu of France - and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk also took part in the 2-hour meeting.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the situation in the Karabakh conflict zone following early April's 4-day war, and the ways to overcome the consequences. The representatives of the co-chairing countries insisted on the need for an unconditional adherence to the 1994 ceasefire agreement and the 1995 ceasefire consolidation agreements.
Also, the sides agreed to take steps to install mechanisms for monitoring and investigating ceasefire violations, increase the capacity of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office's team, also pledging to work towards a possible renewal of the negotiation process.
Prior to this, President Sargsyan met with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Secretary Kerry.Hayastan or Bust.

I really can't find the logic here. It's not important if the land that you lose is big or small, if it has stratagic value or not. You have to take it back no matter what you sacrifice for that. Otherwise you are the one who lose the war. It's just that simple.Last edited by AstalaVist; 05-17-2016, 03:56 AM.
