Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
Too much good news in one day!first, knowing that we had the smerches for a long time, then the modernisation of our tanks...good work from our new MOD, but a question must be asked, does our modernisation make our tanks superior to the israeli modernisation on azeri tanks?

The Sim1 basically has some electronics/optics upgraded with no armor upgrade and no new gun.
The B3 has superior optics/electronics with the French Thales Catherine thermal imager that can be found on the T-90A.
As for the armor, the Sim1 has the regular hull of the T-72S or B/B1 with the ERA kontakt-1 blocks that we have on our T-72B/B1/AV. While the B3 has the hull of of the T-90 + Kontakt-5 ERA at least (possibility of Relict).
The gun of the B3 is the same as that of the T-90A 2A46M-5 while the Sim1 has the same gun as our current T-72B/B1.
The B3 also has the Sosna-U gunner's sight which is a significant addition.
This tank can keep up with any western tank including the Abrams and the Leopard 2A6.
We knocked out Sim1s during the 4-Day War. And the Russians knocked out Georgian Sim1s with T-62s on 08/08/08.
That was a quick comparison from the top of my head.
As for the Smerch, it says we had some crew trained in 1996, but doesn't confirm if we had the Smerch or was it just crew training but no presence of the equipment.Last edited by armnuke; 10-21-2016, 02:21 PM.
