Ministry of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan and the Turkish company MKEK signed an agreement on joint production.

Under the agreement, using MKEK’s technology Azerbaijan will manufacture MP-5 type grenade launchers, machine guns and ammunition.

The agreement was signed as part of the in Abu Dhabi, UAE Defense Exhibition IDEX -2011, APA reports.

One soldier remains alive during murder of seven soldiers in Azerbaijani military unit (UPDATE 5)

Seven Azerbaijani soldiers were killed as a result of an incident in the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s Military Unit No.N at 09:40 on Feb.20, a joint statement by the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry and the country’s Military Prosecutor’s Office says.

As a result of the incident 19 year old Naib Guliyev (Beylagan Region Military Commissariat), 20 year old Javid Javadzade (Mingachevir Region Military Commissariat), 20 year old Nurlan Suanverdiyev (Agdam Region Military Commissariat), 19 year old Ramazan Khojberov (Balakan Region Military Commissariat), 20 year old Afgan Karimov (Balakan Region Military Commissariat), 19 year old Ahmad Huseynov (Agjabadi Region Military Commissariat ), 20 year old Zakir Guliyev (Yasamal District Military Commissariat) were killed.

The Military Prosecutor’s Office and Defense Ministry’s officials investigate the fact at the scene.

A criminal case has been filed under Article 120.2.7 ( deliberate murder of two or more persons), the statement says.

A source at the Republic Military Prosecutor's Office told Trend that an investigation group has been established headed by the deputy military prosecutor Shafahet Imranov.

The press service of the Republic Military Prosecutor's Office said that the investigation group has completed the investigation of the scene. The dead bodies of the 7 killed soldiers have been examined. Material proofs have been taken from the scene and attached to the investigation materials of the criminal case.

One of the soldiers, Musazadeh Kamran (Sumgayit city Military Commissariat), who was on duty during the incident, has remained alive, a military source told Trend.

Azerbaijan Army

The Azerbaijani Land Forces are the land force component of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan has been trying to further develop its armed forces into a professional, well trained, and mobile military. Based on 2007 statistics the country has about 56,840 ground force troops, with additional paramilitary forces of 15,000. In addition, there are 300,000 former service personnel who have had military service in the last fifteen years.

Reportedly, in wartime, the Army proper could call upon the support of the National Guard, the Internal Troops of Azerbaijan, and the State Border Service. The exact wartime command structure remains unclear.

History

During the Soviet period, Azerbaijan was part of the Transcaucasus Military District, whose forces in the republic were commanded by the 4th Army. The 4th Army consisted of three motor rifle divisions (the 23rd Motor Rifle Division (MRD) at Ganja, the 60th at Lankaran, and the 295th in Baku) and army troops that included missile and air defense brigades and artillery and rocket regiments. Azerbaijan also hosted the 49th Arsenal of the Main Agency of Missiles and Artillery of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, which contained over 7,000 train-car loads of ammunition to the excess of one billion units. In addition, the 75th Motor Rifle Division, part of the 7th Guards Army, was in Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Recent incidents in Azeri army, Azeri servicemen’s killing his 7 fellow solders and casual handling of a grenade resulting in 5 soldiers’ injuries, prove that Azeri authorities could benefit more by addressing the issues in their own army, rather than finding fault with the army of their neighbors. Shifting the fault for the deaths of its soldiers on Armenia and Karabakh, the Azeri government won’t escape the severe reality. The situation in the Azeri army is alarming, to put it mildly. Besides being unbalanced, Azeri soldiers are not too good at handling the weapon, purchased by Azerbaijan in large quantities.

However, in spite of the alarming signs, Ilham Aliyev continues mentioning military resolution to Karabakh conflict. Is he still setting hopes on his army? Then he’d definitely benefit from international experts opinions, agreeing on the fact that the efficiency of the Azeri army leaves much to be desired.

Clearly, Azeri authorities’ spending huge funds on purchase and production of weapon prove they realize the weakness of their army. Azerbaijan plans on production of missiles and airbombs with Turkey and Pakistan, purchase of tanks from Ukraine. Still, many-millioned ammunition is hardly worth anything without a well-trained army.

Sooner or later, Baku will have to admit to being unable to form a real army and finally cease its meaningless military rhetoric.

RA Defense Ministry: loss messages Azerbaijan is preparing for new provocations
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence of Armenia Davit Karapetyan said common Azerbaijani media reports that the Armenian forces on Feb. 20 violated the ceasefire, causing losses to the Azerbaijani side.

"According to information received from the NKR Defense Army reportedly Azeri 20 February repeatedly violated the ceasefire", - said Karapetian.

According to him, Azerbaijani media information about the numerous casualties and injuries can be caused by a suicide in the Azerbaijani army, and the consequence of a series of sabotage acts.

"Given the fact that the Azerbaijani side has made a provocation in casual work, it is also possible that, through numerous publications about the losses Azerbaijan is trying to pave the way for further provocations" - "Karapetian said.

"Armenian armed forces continue to respect the ceasefire" - said in comments Press Secretary Ministry of Defence of Armenia.

well one azeri who said they should have a "Day of Rage" on facebook is in jail now

Twenty-year-old opposition youth activist Jabbal Savalanly found that to be the case on February 5 when police arrested him for marijuana possession after he had posted a Facebook appeal for a “Day of Rage” against the Azerbaijani government.

On February 17, the Court of Appeals in the city of Sumgayit upheld Savalanly's two-month pre-trial prison sentence.

looks like the aliyev is xxxxting himself that a revolution to remove the dictator is becoming more and more possible. Now Libya is going through one, is azerbaijan next? lets hope so.

Why do we want a better (Sultan ) Government for Azerbaijan.
If anything we want somebody even more corrupt/incompetent than now.

We want better government for Armenia, praying not through a revolution though.

I dont want a better govt for azerbaijan, maybe they will just kill themselves.
I seriously dont understand those people who want a revolution in Armenia. ter petrosian is a dumbass and he doesnt care if more poeple die just so he can become president and ruin the country. I read an article stating that he sent his family abroad, just like he had done during the March 08 protests. I hope its not the same because is the situation in Armenia the same as Egypt, Tunisia, Libya? no.

A better Government does not necessarily mean different Government.
Certainly not revolution.

BUT it can mean present authorities seeing some of their wrong ways.
