  • Before believing in any number of Azeri casualties we should look onto what they were after and what was the outcome.
I have a hard time believing all their plans were limited only to whatever was possible to do by a battalion of special forces. In 27 years of war with us Azeris pretty well know about their capabilities and our's.
By using special force to the front line can never be the end game. It was most likely only the start. By knowing that there would be a hard resistance from us which could result in very hard losses in general army attack, they tried their yashmas to do the job efficiently and go over the front lines. But if this was the only plan, it would be a stupid waste.
After the front was breached, it would be stupid not to pour in the regular army. That was their plan.
But the high losses given to their SF by our regulars and only few position gains and also how our people unified and moved to fight made clear that price to pay was going to be much much higher. Maybe a catastrophe.
558 is only a catastrophe to SF, not to what a whole plan was.
Would we start a fight on the whole front but use and plan for only a couple thousand special force, given that front line will be breached one way or another(specially if all our goal is to liberate the land)?
The whole army must be committed.
But if results are so bad that everything can go down the drain, you hastily ask for a ceasefire.
We saw our deficiencies, but those were on front trench observation equipment only.
The main artillery and our spy drones nobody has complained about.
Artillery's main function is not to chase decapitated special force platoons. Specially if they are in very close combat with your forces in trenches. It's main function is to hit enemy gatherings before they attack. When enemy concentrates in order to attack in large numbers your artillery becomes an owesome killer.
We did not have time to bring large troop groups to front line to counter attack, they did.
That is why we saw azeris use smerches and TOS 1s but there were no effects.
But our artillery? We saw and heard reports about good effects.
We have a habit of undermining our efforts and for Azeri like side it's a blessing.
One good hit by a 152-155mm artillery shrapnel shell can kill 20-30 ppl.
3-4 days of bombardment of enemy by 100-200 muzzles as they try to come forward in groups can mean losses in thousands.

The Azerbaijani border guard services held exercises in the Caspian Sea, demonstrating for the first time the Israeli LAHAT (SkyBow)anti-tank rockets which are launched from MI-17 helicopters, haqqin.az informed.
SkyBow rockets are operated through semi-active laser guidance. The helicopters are armed with two four-tube launchers and a MOSP-3000D electro-optical system for targeting. Azerbaijan is the first foreign client of helicopter-mounted LAHAT rockets. MI-17 helicopters armed with LAHAT can strike tanks at 13 km.

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

I doubt this can be used full 13KM in mountains. On flat terrain for sure, but on flat terrain AA sistem will get the chopper before it comes 13 KM close to tanks.
If this work with forward pointer for laser than they are as good as other similar rockets as smerches.

They want to be hight enough to see the tanks (if they can) but not high enough to be detected by radars. They might get one missile by surprise after that it will be war and everything flying will come done. The shekelists have them idiots wrapped around their middle finger. For the last two years they have been scratching their head how to attack us and they are failing miserably.
