If you are concerned, then you should be more concerned at the inflamatory posts that made Persepolis respond with words like "Iranians haven't read the crap printed on this site and decided to deport or gun down what's left of the Iranian-Armenian community." As for Persepolis's actual words - I think everyone knows how laughably OTT Iranian egos can get.

Azerbaijani soldier kills his fellow at watch

A soldier was killed in another fatal incident in Azerbaijani army.

“Soldier of the Azerbaijani Army, Akbar Jabrail Damirov, 19, broke weapon handling rule at watch. The fire was opened and the bullet wounded his comrade-in-arms. Soldier Khagani Zakir Allahverdiyev, 19, died as a result of bullet wound,” APA news agency reports.

A criminal case was open, investigation is underway.

Regional security system based on status quo in Karabakh, expert says
May 17, 2011 - 13:35 AMTPanARMENIAN.Net - Fedor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs magazine commented on the possibility of a war between Azerbaijan in Karabakh in a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

“No hostilities between Azerbaijan in Karabakh will be started in foreseeable future. Still, Baku will not stop threatening war,” the expert said. “Should a war burst out, it will blow up the entire region.”

As he noted, the current status quo in the Karabakh conflict is disadvantageous to Baku, although status quo is what the regional security system is based on.

Baku forgets that Karabakh is not related to Azerbaijan under international law

PanARMENIAN.Net - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the Karabakh conflict should be solved based on the international law. Azerbaijan’s “territorial integrity” should be restored, Aliyev told journalists after his meeting with President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus.

He is echoed by Novruz Mammadov, the head of the international relations department at the Azerbaijani President’s Administration, who stated that “Azerbaijan is well aware of the principle of territorial integrity.”

According to him, the territorial integrity envisages “Nagorno Karabakh’s autonomy as part of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.”

However, Baku misunderstands or to be more precise misinterprets the international law. It must have forgotten that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan announced itself as a legal successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, but not of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.

Specifically, Article 2 of the Constitutional Act of the Republic of Azerbaijan on independent statehood of the Republic of Azerbaijan reads: “The Republic of Azerbaijan is a legal successor of the Azerbaijan Republic dating back to the period of May 28,1918–April 28, 1920.”

Nagorno Karabakh, with 94% of Armenian population, by the decision of the Caucasus Bureau was included in the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in a capacity of autonomy in 1921.

The historical reality indicates that Karabakh is not anyhow related to Azerbaijan, while the international law is completely observed and rehabilitated here and now.

Armenian air defence forces best in region, expert believes

Military expert Artsrun Hovhannesyan gave high assessment to the excellent performance of Armenian air defence forces in Karabakh war years, characterizing it as the best in the region.

As the head of the air defence department at Military Aviation Institute after Armenak Khamfertsyan, Haykaz Gevorgyan noted, rearmament is another successful step by Armenian air defence forces. Even before Armenia purchased S-300 missile systems, Armenian experts had excellent command of them. During post-Soviet period, Armenian air defence forces showed more progress than those of NATO, he said.

Azeri journalist: Russia may punish Azerbaijan in case of war in Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - Political observer of Baku-based Zerkalo paper Rauf Mirkadyrov said that a new war in Nagorno Karabakh will destroy the entire system of relations in the South Caucasian region.

“The region’s countries gradually got rid off the fear that emerged after 2008, caused by the Russian-Georgian five-day war. Yet, if Azerbaijan launches a war in Karabakh, it is rather possible that “Russia will knock its block off,” Mirkadyrov said in Yerevan.

He noted that if hostilities are launched, it will be difficult to localize the conflict soon. “Troops are stationed 20-30km of the pipeline that defines the U.S. policy in the region. In case of a new war in Nagorno Karabakh, the entire system of relations will be destroyed, taking into consideration the fact that Turkey will not stay aside. The status of Nagorno Karabakh will hardly change, while its recognition is disadvantageous, like maintenance of current status-quo,” the Azerbaijani journalist said.

Responding to a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter’s question about possible war, Rauf Mirkadyrov noted that there are two options of the settlement: diplomatic and military. “If Armenia does not agree to compromises, Baku will be forced to solve the Karabakh conflict by the use of force. Armenia unleashed the war, and Azerbaijan has the right to retaliate,” Mirkadyrov said, rejecting all attempts to explain that it was Baku who started aggression against Nagorno Karabakh.

Azerbaijan will lose more of its lands in case of new war in Karabakh, expert says

PanARMENIAN.Net - The president of Far Centre, the centre for political and economic studies, former ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia presented his vision of the development of events in case of a new war in Karabakh.

''Should Azeri authorities start a new war in Karabakh, the events will probably follow 2008 Russian-Georgian war scenario. Russia will interfere at once, with planes without distinguishing signs flying all over us. Azerbaijan will lose even more lands, TNs, ets. However, I do not see this happening,'' Hikmet Hajizadeh stated.

As he noted, increased incidents of ceasefire violation is part of Azeri strategy. ''An actual war would become a tragedy to Baku,'' he remarked.

''The probability of Moscow's supporting Armenia's passing some of territories over to Azerbaijan is inexistent. Perhaps, western mediators pressured Yerevan into ceding territories; still, Moscow has never attempted it. As far as I know, Moscow has always forbidden Armenia to make such steps,'' newcaucasus.com cited the expert as saying.

What would the world's media do without that noted and prolific author named "expert says"? He is so productive he must surely use ghost writers! And he has such an obsession with equal representation for all nations that he will pen his words for any country, good or evil, and on any subject, no matter what the cause may be, no matter how bizarre or unbelievable the position. However, I think he speads his talent too thinly - so much so that, for me, seeing the words "an expert says" in an article indicates that it probably has dubious quality.

But, seriously, and about the first post, how can the journalist believe (probably correctly) that a "new war in Nagorno Karabakh will destroy the entire system of relations in the South Caucasian region" and still think that "Baku will be forced to solve the Karabakh conflict by the use of force". Aliyev is doing quite well out of the current situation being maintained, so why would he risk everything by initiating events that will destroy the stability that has enabled him to do so well?

Another death in the armed forces of Azerbaijan
As reported Voskanapat.info with reference to the mass media of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Armed Forces shot by a colleague was killed by 19 year old soldier Khagani Zakir oglu Allahverdiyev. His killer, Gabriel Akber oglu Damir, shot in Khagani, being on the line of duty.

Voskanapat.info recalls that Khagani Allahverdiyev was the 54th loss in the armed forces of Azerbaijan in the current year. Previous Azerbaijani soldier deaths occurred as a result of a lightning strike.
