Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
Karabakh Authorities Do Not Value Work of Reporters

Nine Karabakh organizations sent a letter to mass media outlets requesting that the press devote more coverage to everyday life in the liberated territories. Today, at the “DeFacto Club”, the editors of the “Aravot” and “Azg” newspapers, Aram Abrahamyan and Hakob Avetikyan, agreed with that their request was valid but noted that reporters face a myriad of obstacles when sent to these territories to cover life there. Mr. Abrahamyan commented that when his paper sends correspondents to these areas they are told not to mention the roads leading to the various settlements and the number of residents, etc.
“There are restrictions in place that make it difficult for us to do our job, but in general we really don’t cover these territories in depth,” Mr. Abrahamyan noted. Mr. Avetikyan opined that most of the blame for the light coverage rests with the Karabakh authorities. “Karabakh authorities are even worse than those in Armenia. They don’t view reporters as important and thus we get no information,” the “Azg” editor stated and added that in terms of the territories Armenia has suffered a defeat given that, “we haven’t been able to resettle those lands.”
