Re: Nagorno-Karabagh: Military Balance Between Armenia & Azerbaijan
Any surprises at the Azeri military parade?
- The S-300s sale by Russia to Azerbaijan was confirmed to be true. It had a Favorite marking on it so it's probably this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-300_%...F2_.28SA-20.29
- The Turkish Otokar Cobra which failed during 2008 Russian-Georgian war.
- Israeli Lynx MLRS.
- BTR models.
- Smerch.
- Tochka.
- Marauder and Matador (posted above)
What else?
EDIT: Forgot, are those UAVs locally produced ones or Israeli-bought ones or both?Last edited by Federate; 06-26-2011, 10:24 AM.Azerbaboon: 9.000 Google hits and counting!

The UAVs are the same Yahoodi ones displayed on previous occasions.
They announced that the S-300 PMU-2 was going to be there. It normally takes more than a year to produce such a system, Russia must have given them the 2 systems that were ordered by Iran and never delivered.
Smerch, Lynx, Tochka etc were all seen in the previous parade.
The MRAP (Mine resistant) vehicles were acquired over the last couple of years.
No new aircraft in the air either (just some South African modifications on some of their Mi-24 helicopters).
I will prepare a comprehensive report after I see a complete video of the parade and a extensive photo shoot.

The press wrote about the signed contract to purchase 24 Mi-35M helicopters from Russia to Azerbaijan in autumn 2010. However, there is no video of the Mi-35M helicopters. At the parade they were not there.

Serge Sarkisian is the best President of Armenia since independence.
I agree. Ignore anyone who claims otherwise because they are either ignorant or have an axe to grind.Last edited by Armanen; 06-26-2011, 09:23 PM.For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

Azerbaijan Shows Off New Weapons at Military Parade
June 26, 2011 - 7:53pm, by Joshua Kucera
Azerbaijan celebrated its Armed Forces Day on Sunday with a big military parade in Baku and the first display of the country's new, Russian-supplied S-300 air defense system, the existence of which had been the source of some skepticism.
The parade featured 6,000 soldiers and a variety of hardware (you can see a video below). Azerbaijan's president, Ilham Aliyev, also gave a speech in which he boasted about Azerbaijan's military prowess and vowed to retake the disputed province of Nagorno Karabakh, now controlled by Armenians.
“The war is not over yet,” Aliyev said at the showpiece parade in the center of Baku, vowing to end what he called the “occupation” of Karabakh.
“The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored and the territory will be restored,” he said...
“Azerbaijan has fulfilled the task that I set, which was that Azerbaijan’s military expenditure must exceed the entire state budget of Armenia,” he said, noting that defense spending reached $3.3 billion (2.3 billion euros) this year.
“Military expenditure occupies first place in the state budget of Azerbaijan and that is understandable. It will be like this as long as our lands are not liberated,” he said.
