If Turkey wishes to help Karabakh process, it should stay away – Armenia’s Foreign Minister

              January 30, 2012 | 11:37

YEREVAN. – If Turkey truly, genuinely wishes to help the Karabakh process, it should stay as far away from that process as possible, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian said during his interview with television stations.

With regard to the observation that Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu had said that following the French Senate’s passing of the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide, France is no longer an impartial country in the OSCE Minsk Group, and therefore had suggested that Turkey should likewise become a mediating country in the Karabakh peace talks, Armenia’s FM said: “If Turkey truly, genuinely wishes to help this process, it should stay as far away from this process as possible. I do not think it is Turkey which decides the issue of those formats. I should note that Azerbaijan’s president, together with Armenia’s president, said in Sochi [Russia] that the presidents expressed a hope that France, Russia, and the United States would continue their mediation as [Minsk Group] Co-Chairs.”

And concerning Davutoglu’s statement that French President Nicolas Sarkozy stayed in Armenia for two days, whereas a mere three hours in Azerbaijan, Nalbandian said: “Perhaps he is more concerned that Sarkozy was in Turkey for a few hours.”

And reflecting on the Turkish FM’s statement that France is no longer neutral following the French Senate’s decision, Edward Nalbandian stated: “The bill is not directed against a specific country. And that exaggerated reaction comes to prove yet again the importance and necessity of the law adopted in France. If this denialist Turkish policy further exacerbates, these types of decisions will be adopted by other countries, too. If Turkey says the Armenian Genocide is the view of the Armenian side alone, how can someone say that the Holocaust is the view of the xxxs alone. This view is also held by more than a dozen European countries, and more than twenty countries and international organizations, which have recognized the [Armenian] Genocide. Even the overwhelming majority of those who vote, or speak, against the Armenian Genocide’s recognition, state that this was genocide. Turkey says otherwise and [thus] puts itself into a trap.”

A great response by the Armenian government!

Armenia’s Deputy Parliament Speaker responds to Azerbaijani counterpart

                  January 30, 2012 | 17:02

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov commented on his Azerbaijani counterpart Bahar Muradova’s statement, which she made on Monday, according to which Turkey must replace France as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country.

“With the stubbornness of the well-known animal, Azerbaijan yet again puts itself into a funny position. It is enough to just read the January 23 trilateral Sochi statement—which [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev likewise signed—which recalls that the [Karabakh] problem solely has a peaceful solution, and that the co-chairing countries Russia, US, and France will have an active role in the future, too, and in this status, in the settlement issue. Azerbaijan found itself in an awkward situation once again. As they say, they wished for the better, but it turned out as always,” Eduard Sharmazanov concluded.

Another soldier of Azerbaijani Army dies

A soldier of Azerbaijani Army is killed, APA informs. According to the information he is dead as a result of mishandling gun.

According to the source the incident was recorded in the “N” military unit which situated in Binagadi’s Bilajari settlement.

Rufin Vilayet Rahimov, born in 1991, called up by the military commissariat of Kapaz region in 2011 is announced to be killed as a result of mishandling gun and violation of security rules.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense confirmed this fact. The investigation is carried out into the fact.

Azerbaijani soldiers are dying in Azerbaijani Army very often. Social conditions, strained relations between the officers and soldiers are the causes of these deaths. But sometimes Azerbaijani side announces just stupid reasons of the soldiers’ deaths.

When Azerbaijani side shots at Armenian positions (they do it quite frequent) and an Armenian soldier is wounded or, unfortunately, is dead, then Armenian side punishes Azerbaijanis. They have more victims, but never announce about this, as they consider it may break the patriotic moods in Azerbaijan, which are based on false tales and legends about a nation, which does not exist.
General Antranik (1865-1927): “I am not a nationalist. I recognize only one nation, the nation of the oppressed.”
