Edo, what's in the air in this photo.
If it were jets, why did they flew during training, and not during parade?

I am not sure Vrej, could be SU-25s runung patrols or aircrafts taking off/landing from the airport in distance. I was wondering the same thing, why didn't the SU-25s make a flyby over the parade.

davidoga you got to consider the logistics.
Armenia's military aviation is setup already to handle Russian Migs and SU-25s and such....from access stands, aircraft jacks, ground support equipments like power carts, hydraulic carts, bomb/missle loaders, servicing equipments. Also many Armenians are trained in maintaining these aircrafts with easy parts availebility. Armenian pilots are trained in flying SUs and MIgs. Going Chinese you have to consider all of these.

I think Russia knows that if Armenia gets a squadron of Mig-29s Baku would be finished. We are not even getting more SU-25s let alone the updated versions of it, you think they will sell up migs? Like I said, I gave up asking why.

Like I said, Chinese aircraft is reverse-engineered Russian aircraft. It wouldn't be too large of an adjustment. I'm not saying this would be an ideal situation, but at some point Armenia will need to make the transition to buying its equipment instead of simply acquiring it from Russia.

Like I said, Chinese aircraft is reverse-engineered Russian aircraft. It wouldn't be too large of an adjustment. I'm not saying this would be an ideal situation, but at some point Armenia will need to make the transition to buying its equipment instead of simply acquiring it from Russia.

It is an old, and very "well known" article.
I'm afraid the only one available on the entire conflict in english.
But it is full of inaccuracies, intox, detox... I have no exhaustive data of the full and exhaustive image.
But some episodes that I know for sure, are distorted, absent, or BS- ed!
Some I am pretty sure, are inexistent...
Even well known episodes, present all over news at the time, easily googled, are absent...
So the guy did not even do his google job propperly.
So its only merit is its existence for western audience, since, as long as I know, no one bothered to make a better work.

There are two mean reasons why we don’t have Mig-29’s and why we won’t get them from Russia or for example Ukraine.

Most important reason is we don’t have the financial resources to buy (even against lower prices) and more important, maintain those Mig-29’s. Also, unfortunately, it seems that the financial situation in Armenia won’t become better in the coming years.

Secondly, Russia (not Ukraine) won’t allow us to have some Mig-29’s as they, like said before, want to keep the status quo. They already have their own Mig-29’s in Armenia and therefore haven’t any advantage to provide us with Mig-29’s to. Armenia with Mig-29’s will be (at this moment) a threat to their interests. In financial terms Russia gives/provides us a lot but planes are really expensive, mainly to maintain them and Russia also haves has his ‘’friendly limit’’ I think.

Our (outdated) +20 years old SU-25’s are from Slovakia These SU-25’s are operational and can assist our ground troops but are sensitive for enemy fire and as far I know they don’t night vision equipment. As long we don’t have the financial resources to buy and maintain Mig-29’s or any other we have to do all it takes to update our SU-25’s to today’s standard so they can fully assist our ground troops coming years in day and night. Even important is to keep investing in our air defence forces to cut the advantage which the Azeri’s have with their air force.

Let’s hope for the best.

Armenia should start designing its own military equipment in the future, including fighters.
