Just returned from a 4 day trip to Artsakh, got a chance to visit the front lines in the Agdam region, and walk through the trenches, less than 200 M from the Azeri side. The region was calm relative to other regions, the last violation had taken place 3 days before. The captain of the post and soldiers seemed to be in good spirit, and seemed to be proud to be doing what they were doing.

When I asked the captain what he thought about the conflict and possible solution, he said that we would all love to have peace, and not have to deal with the death and violence, unfortunately though, we have an enemy hungry for blood that wants no compromise, so this conflict will go on until the enemy is defeated so thoroughly, that it will not dare to pick up arms again. He said last time we simply wanted NK, and we ended up with 7 of their villages along with NK, but that seemed to not make them understand, so let them come again, because they will lose more this time.

I didn't get a chance to have a long talk with the soldiers, but my friend did, and he seemed to get a similar sense from the soldier. I saw the soldier joking with my friend, letting him mess around with some of the arms he had on him, and having a good laugh over it.

Could he introduce some minimal time or periods of service in the army like the Israel so for Armenians that long live or have double passports outside of Armenia?

Could you ask him if (though he will probably not give anywhere near an explicit answer but you may be able to elude to the real answer based on his expressions) if Armenia is aggressively/demanding more missile systems, jet fighters, etc from Russia?

Obviously so much is classified but I think Armenia deserves more armament. It seems Armenia has just enough to defend itself but not enough to counter.

Is it realistic to expect the CSTO or Russia to intervene in a future Karabakh conflict on the side of Armenia?

If Armenia is gonna acquire newer equipment such as T-90 tanks, artillery systems, or Mi-28 helicopters to counter the advanced equipment that Azerbaijan recently has been stockpiling? And is Armenia planning on developing a domestic weapons industry for the production of small arms?

Please ask about any developments in K3 or VAHAN production (or the defense industry in general). Any chance of S400 deployment in 102nd base?

Artsakh DM Hakobyan: “A retreat of Armenian forces from the frontlines would be followed by war” (Video)

                      14:24, July 9, 2012
Recently, a group of journalists travelled to military units in Artsakh under an agreement brokered between the Investigative Journalists NGO and the Artsakh Ministry of Defense.

There, reporters had a chance to converse with soldiers and officers on the frontlines.

Afterwards, they met with Artsakh Defense Minister Lieutenant General Movses Hakobyan. The group spent the better part of an evening around a campfire and DM Hakobyan expressed his views on a number of topics and answered questions.

He categorically stated that a retreat of Armenian forces from the frontlines would be followed by the outbreak of war.
