Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!


2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

    The full-fledged Ministry of Diaspora will not only work towards enhancing relations between Armenia and the Diaspora, but it will also encourage Armenians all over the world to unite and work together for one purpose, that is, to strengthen and build a prosperous future for the Homeland.

    Share related articles and opinions in this topic. One of the first major programs is called ''Het Arir'' meaning Come Home. This is a great project and I hope this is just the beginning. I also agree with Hranush Hakobian that a lot of these young people will have the willingness to constantly
    come back to the homeland. They should work this out in a smart way, by giving them free tickets and tours in museums and Artsakh. I hope this program will grow, when they can proudly say more than 25.000 young people visited Armenia ''this'' summer.




    OVER 1000 DIASPORAN ARMENIAN YOUNG PEOPLE'S VISIT TO ARMENIA ENVISAGED AT FIRST STAGE OF PROGRAM COME HOME

    YEREVAN, JANUARY 14, ARMENIANS TODAY - NOYAN TAPAN. It is envisaged
    to implement the first stage of the program Come Home in 2009, within
    the framework of which over 1000 Armenian young people from abroad
    aged from 14 to 25 will visit Armenia. They will stay with Armenian
    families for 3-4 weeks, will get acquainted with the national values,
    Armenia's historic-cultural monuments, will communicate with people
    of the same age.

    RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobian's meeting with Yerevan
    prefects was dedicated to the discussion of organization issues
    regarding this program.

    The Minister said that the program reflected in the RA state budget
    and government program besides Yerevan also involves the Armavir,
    Ararat, Aragatsotn, and Kotayk regions. It is envisaged that young
    people will visit Armenia from Russia, Georgia, Iran, Near East,
    Europe, and the United States.

    According to the Minister, the program will contribute to formation and strengthening of contacts between Armenian and Diasporan young people. H. Hakobian is convinced that a young person visiting the homeland for the first time thanks to the program "will leave Armenia becoming completely Armenian and with the willingness to constantly come to the homeland." The Minister said that today a great movement has started in the Diaspora as well in connection with the program, and Diasporan Armenians form young people's groups consisting of 10-15 people, and the list of families receiving the young people should be made up in Armenia. She expressed the hope that a few charity flights will be organized by the airlines, which will enable to receive more children in Armenia for instance, from the RF Krasnodar territory.The Minister said that for instance, 34% population of the town of Sochi, Krasnodar territory are Armenians, 90% of which do not master Armenian.

    The prefects raised an issue on responsibility for this or that
    negative manifestation emerging during program's implementation. In
    response H. Hakobian said that in order to prevent such situations
    there should be bilateral letters of recommendation from proper bodies
    on both the young people and the families receiving them in Armenia.

    The Minister said that it is envisaged creating a body and a working
    group coordinating program's implementation in the future. The
    Minister promised the prefects that the criteria, according to
    which the receiving families should be chosen, will be worked out
    and introduced by late January asked the prefects to introduce the
    receiving families' lists by late February.

      Unfortunately, they got no website. I think it is still under construction, but there is another interesting website, the official RA Ministry of Territorial Administration as Migration Agency, called ''Back to Armenia''.


      Assessment of Current Migration Situation



      Assessment is made on the basis of the registration data kept in border points of the Republic of Armenia



      The negative migration balance in January- November 2008 (the number of the persons left the Republic has outnumbered the number of those arrived) is more than the same index of the previous year by 21.4 thousand persons or by 86.1 %.

      The positive migration in November 2008 has reduced by 0.4 thousand persons or by 2.5 % in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

      The overall volume of the passenger’s flow in January- November 2008 in comparison with the same period of the previous year has increased by 218.9 thousand persons or by 9.3 % and has made 2571.6 thousand persons.

      In January- November the ratio of passengers crossing border by airway has made 53.8 % in total number of passengers’ flows.

        The net balance of migration for the year 2008 was -46298, that is a huge number for a small country like Armenia, and a disgrace. The only solution is to toughen the border policy and to improve living conditions in Armenia. But there is another point, a lot of poor families do not have the money to buy a ticket and leave Armenia, but as soon as their situation improves they cash the money they got and leave never to be seen again. So we have got ourselves a dilemma.

        What do you guys think is the best solution and how can we overcome this dilemma?

          These don't look to be actual immgration numbers. This is basically anyone who left the country for whatever reason, tourism, seasonal workers, or for good.

          One thing that interests me is why georgia and azerbaijan don't have higher numbers of immigration, both are in worse shape than Armenia.
          For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
          to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

            That is correct, but a high percentage of the people leaving Armenia are not coming back. This problem is still an actual problem, but how to solve this and the forthcoming dilemma is difficult.

            For a healthy society to overcome difficulties, disasters and wars we must have at least 5-10 million citizens. Every citizen that leaves Armenia is of great loss.

              Compared to the 90s this isn't nearly as bad, still a problem that needs to be overcome though. However, one positive aspect of the world financial crisis is that most places that Armenians would tend to leave for don't have a very low demand for jobs, so therefore what's the point of leaving one country for another when you will be jobless in both?

                The economy is one thing and war is another reason many leave.Our homeland is surrounded by enemies who want to kill us and sometimes do.No one wants to lose a son or a daughter and people will do what they think is best for their families.To stop emmigration and increase immigration Armenia will need to work on security and peace (neither seems likely any time soon) also economic stability and progress (some gains have been made in this field.).

                  Can you see the vicious circle? Leave the country and live a cowardly, "free" life in a "peaceful" western country at the expense of our own, thus leaving Armenia for the present generation and for future ones at a disadvantaged position in ensuring Armenian families could thrive in it.

                    That's sick. Any Armenian that leaves Armenia because they do not want to defend the Homeland shouldn't be considered an Armenian. I would rather live in a humble Armenia than a rich and spiritually empty western country.
