  • Richest political party in Armenia?

Which political party in Armenia do you all think is the richest financially?

I think it is the ARF since they have been around the longest, and they have a presence in over 30 countries worldwide, basically all the major nations with an Armenian population. Over time and with their wide distribution they have collected a lot of money. However, the Republican party has a lot of rich members (oligarchs).
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

I am afraid the name of this thread has a certain Americanism about it where,
“The power is measured based on campaign dollars” etc.

It would have been more valuable if the discussion was based on, which party is more,

      Politically mature.
      Politically savvy.
      Politicaly organised
      Most visionary
Performing their duties as the constitution expects
      Has Grass root support
      Most Patriotic
      etc.

Politics is not about the pursuit of morality nor what's right or wrong
Its about self interest at personal and national level often at odds with the above.
Great politicians pursue the National interest and small politicians personal interests

A mafia-like gang acting to maintain and expand its own self-interests is not a true political party, even if it members move on from just threatening or bribing the electorate or elected politicians to actually being the elected politicians.

I was wondering what people think, there has been a lot of discussion about what parties are good or bad, who is supported by West or Russia, etc. I just wanted to see which party has the most financial resources, that is a topic I have yet seen covered either in this forum or in any articles.

The party in power always has the best resources. No party looses power because of lack of money! But I wonder what financial records the political parties in Armenia have to make public, what limits there are, if any, on political donations, are the names of large donors made public, and so on. Do ordinary members of political parties pay membership fees? Is there such a thing as an ordinary member of a political party?

How do you know they ALWAYS do? Also, how do you know the party in power always has the most financial resources?

I would say the Dashnaks have the most resource, because of the fact that they are based all over the world and have the most members. Second would be the Republican party because if I'm correct they are the biggest party that is only located in Armenia.

I can't think of a single example of a party that has lost power because it couldn't match the spending of a rival party. But raw money itself is not really a resource - money just buys the resources a party needs. So the party in power always has the advantage because it has the most resources, most of which it doesn't have to buy - it gets access to them, and gets to limit or exclude rivals from them, just by being in power.

A mere tweak of the electoral laws would make such Dashnak resources worthless overnight. Maybe such laws already exist, forbidding foreign funding of political parties in Armenia.
