A Subject of Essay about Armenian Allegations
"THE WIND BLEW, THE WATER CARRIED AWAY"

    Translated from Armenian for ANN/Groong

    Marmara, ( http://www.normarmara.com/ ), Istanbul, 11 June 2003

An article signed Pinar Selek has been published in the newspaper
"Gündem", which condemns in a fairly sarcastic and meaningful manner
the essays imposed on Armenian schoolchildren in order to disprove
the Armenian Genocide. We are providing it after translation.

    **

ESSAY: The Armenian Genocide did not happen.

    NAME: whatever

    AGE: very young

SUBJECT OF THE ESSAY: to prove that the Armenian Genocide did not
    happen

SCHOOL: any school depending upon the Education Ministry

PURPOSE OF THE ESSAY: to be ranked first in the class, to be commended
for his performance, to get a reward.

THE WIND BLEW, THE WATER CARRIED AWAY

First, no such event as the Armenian Genocide happened in this country.
Me, I have not seen such a thing. During all my life, I have not
had even a single Armenian friend. I would not like to have one
anyway. What am I going to do with a classmate who would not lend
me his eraser or pencil? Our teacher told us that Armenians are
stingy. Our teacher is a knowledgable man. He knows everything.

Nobody knows who the Armenians were, where they lived. Perhaps there
was no such thing as an Armenian. Perhaps, they were the kind of
monsters about whom older persons used tell us. I am terrified when
I hear the word "Armenian". We are lucky that they do not exist. If
they existed, they would eat us. Our history teacher told us that
Armenians were terrorists. They covet the indivisible unity of this
country. Now they want to break Turkey into pieces, claiming that
    Armenians were murdered.

Also, our history teacher said that the words "Armenian" and
"terrorist" come from the same root. Both have the letters "er" in them
[MARMARA: respectively "ERmeni" and "tERörist" in Turkish] The word
"er" is related with the military and with murder [in turkish "er"
means soldier] Of course it is not about the Turkish Army. Turkish
soldiers do not kill anybody. Turkish solders like children, respect
adults. But it looks like Armenians coveted especially the children
    of our age.

I asked also my mother and my father. They did not tell me anything. My
grand father does not know anything either. Even when I asked him
once, he said "there is no such thing as an Armenian, who is inventing
these words? No such word should come out of your mouth anymore." And
me, after completing this essay, I shall never pronounce the word
    "Armenian" again.

The village of my mother once belonged to Armenians. Once, my mother
let it slip out. Then I asked her "Aren't you afraid that the ghosts
of Armenians will come and eat you now?" then my mother slapped me. My
mother never used to beat me. But why should she beat, she is not an
Armenian isn't she? But, here you are, she was upset. The grand father
of my mother apparently came to that village from another place. When
they arrived, the village had been abandoned for a long time. The
village dates back to the Hittite period. Everything is written in
history books. Then the Seljuks arrived, and then the Ottomans. And
    finally the Republic.

What happened to Armenians? There were no Armenians. There was a
rumor that they had once existed.

It's not us who murdered them. Turks don't even harm an ant. Turks
don't know about arms. They say "peace in the country, peace in the
world" and disribute flowers to everybody. Why should they assassinate
other people? Turks are proud, they work and they feel confident. Happy
is the one who says "I am a Turk."

Nobody tells something about the Armenian Massacre. Recently, I have
gone to the house of one of my friends. My friend's father said that
Armenians changed their names and named themselves PKK. He told me
what kind of crimes the PKK committed. I wept loudly. Apparently all
Armenians were demons and worked only to harm our country.

In reality it is them who killed us. They throw up their swords and
charged against us by shouting "Allah! Allah!" They assassinated us
indiscriminately, children, women, and elderly people. They slaughtered
eveybody. They raped women, took some of the women with them and
sold the rest. They did not even leave a single Turk. They commited
Genocide against us. They appropriated all our possessions. Later
God punished them. Suddenly, He sent all of them to Hell.

Exactly like in tales. Then, they say that a miracle happened and
suddenly we rose from the dead. We left our tombs and came back to
life, a prince came, gave us a kiss and we woke up. And a fairy healed
all our wounds. And this heavenly country was left to us.

As for Armenians, the wind blew and the water carried them away.

                Alright...I shall clarify yet again.

This article was written by a Turkish author, who was making fun of the turkish government's policy, in which armenians had to deny the existence of the armenian genocide.

It is a parody of the kind of essay that would be judged as "acceptable" by the Ministry of education.

The Genocide will be dropped from books only when Armenian culture and language die out from the world.
