The second language in Armenia is obviously Russian but as a third language I have noticed some kids at school, are being taught French as well.

No, why should it be avoided? But would 'Turkish' be of any use to ordinary people, I wonder??

In any case, I'd rather spend my precious time learning a language rather than a cacophony of Persian and Arabic.

I can understand your Armenian and I personnally speak the eastern dialect so I think if you learn whatever dialect properly, you'll definitely understand the other.
Unless you guys use some slang or throw non-Armenian words, I understand Arevmtahayeren.

No. Like I said if you master the Western, you can easily learn the Eastern, the official language of Armenia. But, in my opinion, Arevelahayeren is much more straightforward and fluent - both in in terms of grammar and pronunciation- compared to the Western Armenian.

Turkish can be useful, but I don't like it. Arabic and Greek are perhaps the most important for an Armenian to learn after Armenian itself and English. Unless you live in France then French is important, or if you are Barsgahye then you should probably learn Persian....or Haystanci you should learn Russian:P:P

but seriously Greek and Arabic are beautiful languages and Greek is very easily to learn for an Armenian - it is the most similar of all the worlds languages to Armenian.

Assyrian (Syriac) is very nice too.

Cross out Turkish and Hebrew and there you go.

If you want to learn a second language then best choice would be Russian from an Armenian's standpoint. It is very useful in Armenia(and around the world esp. eastern europe) to know Russian. But make sure your Armenian is solid at a scholarly level before you go on.

Since when? Eastern is the official language of Armenia. And if you want to go and live there you should know there.

And if you don't know eastern how will you ever learn rabiz slang that is spoken in the streets of the cities

If you want to learn Eastern Armenian & you go to Armenia you might as well pick up on some Russian.
