We can get into a dumb debate about what form of Armenian is right and wrong, or sounds good or bad, but the most important thing to remember is that only in Armenia will our language and culture actually be preserved.

What some of you were talking about is a phenomena of the modern Fascist era. Take Greece for example; every island has its own dialect, every village has its own dialect and every city has its own dialect. Then came the era of fascism ie after WWII and every nation decided to formulate an "Official" language. These formal languages had little to do with the various dialects within the nation. So in many cases it created a gap between people as those who were born into the modern language were seen as better educated.

On the issue of Russians and Russian language in commercial industry, I'm pretty sure its because Armenia would be a tourist destination for many Russians who previously lived in Armenia. In Cyprus for example most shops don't even have Greek on their menus its always German, French, English and recently Russian.

Russia ruined alot of things i was reading that the word for 100 is supposed to be pronounced hayryur but that during soviet rule it was changed to hayrur because it more closely reflected Russian, but either way i got Armenian tv and hayastansi Armenian is just so weird, Beirut-a-hye Armenian may not be correct but it sure as hell sounds a lot prettier ( at least to me anyways) and whats up with that deep talking out of my chest voice thing haystansis have going on? like even the women do it

I personally do not know any Armenians that don't speak Armenian, but I have only experienced Californias' communities.
