I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for Armenians to know Russian. It automatically makes them bilingual.
But Russian a more "civilized" language? Respected I understand, since it was pushed under the Soviets, but civilized? Why did the imperial Russian aristocracy communicate in French, then? Russian was only used to address commoners and peasants.
