Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Is Armenia that bad

I’ve been told for a while now that Armenia is full of prostitutes or hookers and that it’s getting really bad there and not the best place to go and visit and certainly not the best place to find a wife because apparently Hayastansi's arn't as "Family Orientated" to the other Armenians.
What do you guys think? Is it that bad?

If it is then we should be ashamed because I would be.

Armenians are like other people, we have bad ones but we have lots of good ones.
Let us concentrate on the good ones, our poets, musicians, composers, inventors, dancers, opera and non rabiz singers

Very, very exaggerated!!!, Armenia is a very good place for everything if you’re comparing it with the rest of the world, but it’s a different story if you’re comparing it with haven

Very blunt and honest, I like that.

To answer the question, since independence a lot of things got messed up, including some social norms, but the past decade they have started to get back on track. However, compared to other nations Armenia is one of the more conservative and still takes pride in its culture, religion, and is not ashamed to be nationalistic, unlike europeans especially in western europe.

But with globalization, and the spread of mtv culture, of course you are going to see an attempt by the powers that be to make Armenia is degenerate as the rest of Europe and America, and they have the capital plus resources to do just that.

Yet, it only takes people like us who really care about Armenia, who have morals, who want to keep Armenia Armenian, and not make it some mult- cultural wasteland, to better the nation and I think if we pool our collective resources together we can make it happen.

As a piece of advice, I would tell you to visit Armenia for yourself and come to your own conclusion, some Armenians from the Diaspora can be very stuck up when they are in Armenia, so I am not sure if it was one of these types who told you all this.
For the first time in more than 600 years, Armenia is free and independent, and we are therefore obligated
to place our national interests ahead of our personal gains or aspirations.

I remeber reading an article somwhere in the past few years, about armenia getting it's first adult novelty store and how aspects of life pertaining to adult sexuality is still somewhat taboo. So when in comparison to America, and other places it's not that bad, however prostitution can usually always be considered a bad thing no matter how little or big of a problem it is

                Re: Is Armenia that bad

Due to the Armenia-Turkey match and events following, there were some news reports, interviews and stuff concerning Armenia on Turkish TV channels in the last week. On one of these reports I watched, when asked an Armenian professor explained his monthly salary was $50. It was very hard for me to believe. In my country a professor earns between $2000(state university) - $4000(private university) monthly and we are also considered an undeveloped/developing country. Then I read more about Armenia's economy and from what I understand Armenia is very very poor and none of the governments or diaspora have done anything to make it better.

Also there are more and more illegal Armenian immigrants coming to Turkey to work. The situation seems to be serious.

Well if you heard it on propaganda tv, then of course it must be true. Get out of here.

Armenia year in and year out has performed better than turkey in economic and GDP growth even with all the obstacles placed in front of it. I would like to see how turkey would perform if half of its borders were closed, if it was still in a state of war, if it lacked access to the sea, if it had 2 genocidal neighbors and no serious natural resources to speak of. Can you say central african republic?

                    Re: Is Armenia that bad

I came back from Armenia a week ago. To answer your question: Is it that bad? It's not bad at all. It's the safest country I've been to. Much safer than Europe. What you mention is a phenomenon that knows no boundaries, but still it is not a touchstone. All aspects taken into account, Armenia is much better than our "civilized" west.
