Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

majority doesn't have the right to oppress the minority! There is a right for artistic expression what is next you are going to ban books you don't agree with or are songs the next or start regulating journalists or what people can think or can't think. Or is it what people can say?

It is not TV's responsibility to raise your damned kids people, if you fail at raising your kid it is your fault not TV's!

You are kidding me right, that is the weakest excuse I have heard in my life. Because you cannot control your kids my rights can be taken away?
You should never argue with idiots because they will just drag you down to their level....then beat you with experience!!!!!!!

So does this mean you've got nothing meaningful to add to the discussion? Or is the standard to high for people like you who hate freedom?

It is the same, looking at the past with pink glasses and complain how bad things have gotten compared to the past.
It's looking at things in a relative manner. Of course it's good when kids are well behaved and have good values, that's the goal of every family, but not every family produces such results. As I said, there are certain things compared to the past we should continue on changing, but certain things that relates to our core values we shouldn't.

So how is it different to what the rich did in the past? Building their huge mansion, trying to outdo each other in luxury? How is their any difference? The only difference is that more people today have the money and the ability to spend their money on goods. And it keeps our economy growing.
No, it's apparent in the mindset of people, how materials control the life of a everyday person in their goals. Take a look at this statistic: "A survey done by the UCLA and American Council on Education on a quarter of a million new college students found that their main reason for attending college was to gain material wealth. From the 1970s to the late 90s, the percentage of students that stated their main reason for going to college was to develop a meaningful life philosophy dropped from over 80% to about 40%, while the purpose of obtaining financial gain rose from about 40% to over 75%.[7]"

So in some magical way people that don't make up 10% of the population will replace the other 90%? There is more than enough patriotism in Europe, the word you are looking for is nationalism and I am more than happy that there is less of it.
I think today's Europe has much less a national sense of identity and patriotism then several decades ago. Reason for this comes a bit from the horrors of the World Wars. That being said, while a multi-cultural state works better in country like US, Armenia is a nation-state with fragile demographics, so such multi-culturalism is a great danger for us.

If an Armenians is given the choice to go and serve most will not do it, you can try and argue as much as you want but that will not change the fact that most people don't want to go and serve for two years. In the US they can chose not to serve and earn more and not risk their lives, but they choose to go and serve so maybe there is an other reason connected than multiculturalism.
Sure, a good portion people would prefer not to serve if they didn't have to, some would still serve. Especially serving at the frontlines can be very dangerous. We should of course work on improving and reforming our army, and maybe in the future replace it with professional style army.

        Y
ou are again using such subjective terms that cannot be measured at all. Change is a constant, every culture in the world changes if it doesn't change it becomes obsolete and disappears.
I like the word 'adapt' better. We can adapt our culture/values, but still keep our fundamental values that are key to our identity.

You are right, I hate your "freedom"/"right" when it spoils my/our children.

You like twisting words just for the sake of arguing. To tell writers what to write is one thing and regulating TV programs is another. And those journalists that are agents with their specific agendas who are bias in everything they write, never telling the truth or twist words and fake photos (CNN is a good example) need to be hang from their testicles on a major square.
Yes when a singer is singing a songs with vulgarity he should be put in his place, or if he's advocating a revolution or advocating a crime, should also be put in his place. In America if you sing about "freedom", or advocate one, you get killed by an overdose or by a crazy person that was one of your fans. Freedom of speech is a political slogan that only brain washed blind people believe in it, when they cannot see the thousands that are in slogans users' jails just because they've said the truth or spoke about what they believe in.

Instead of condemning BS and standing up for freedom people are actually supporting it! I can literally hear Tolkien, Tolstoy and Shakespeare turning in their grave.

Most people need dictators to take away their freedoms but Armenians are giving it away it willingly.

Yo Karo the prime indicators of quality of life are infant mortality rates and avarage life span both of which the USA ranks at the bottom compared to the richest nations on earth despite being by far the richest nation on earth. Even in broader measures like the quality of life index the mighty USA ranks 13 in the world again despite being by far the richest and most powerful. Besides the obvious fact that these numbers indicate that the USA does not give a crap about its own people - what else is it that you dont get?

                Really, literally ?

I never thought I'd see those three together in the same sentence let alone same grave.

I guess Karo your too young to know or remember what people and life was like during the soviet days. It is very difficult for someone who was not there to imagine it especialy since the whole world is runing the materialistic rat race with their own doom as the finishline and this is the only world you have known. I agree with you in the fact that many people here villafy the west for the wrong reasons and that we have learned much useful things from the west and still have much to learn. The west does many bad things and i am one of the most vocal people to call them out when they do but many paint the west with a broad brush and do not see or do not want to see the good it has done for Armenia. I think sensorship is the big problem you are having regarding the topic of this thread and i understand your issue but keep in mind that all countries do sensor material for public viewing and there is good reason for it. You probably would not want porn on your TV if you have kids who watch it. Even if you as a parent are vigilant about what your kids watch at home, wo government sensorship they will see the bad things at a friends house or when your dozing off or at anywhere where there is a tv. I do not think that cable television should be sensord because you know what it you are buying but public tv definetly needs sensorship of some kind. The things people experience in their environment effects people and the way they think and act. You can be the best parent in the world but if your kis sees mafia lifestyle glorified everywhere he goes then he will think thats cool regardless what you tought him. Peer pressure is huge for kids especialy teenagers and this is the time when they form their identity thus what they are exposed to matters greatly. I don'tknow if shantv is public or private but if it is public it should be sensored to some degree and if it is private and not available to the public wo prescription then it should not be sensored or be very lightly sensored.

Most Armenian TV channels, including shantv unfortunately are readily available to the public. And the TV channel is not the only problematic one under consideration. We have just several cable TVs and this issue, you are right, doesn't refer to them. The Armenia and Dar-21 TVs are in the list of most horrible/disgusting ones, too.

And the decent ones, in private TV sector, are AR TV that belongs to Karen Vardanyan and YerkirMedia TV.
Then the only public sector good TV channel is Shogakat; which is broadcasted in cooperation with church.

                      Another good news:

Eventually Armenian public is deeply concerned about the antisocial/criminal/prostitution propaganda on TV channels, conducted by corrupt/criminal TV channel owners. And admits that it should be considered as one of the most significant factors, that could trigger the death of the innocent; Vahe Avetyan and alike. Just look at Media reaction in Armenia. Glad to see/know!
