Re: What if Armenians were Muslim?
What if Azar posted something useful on the forum?
“We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, or the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: courageously or in cowardice, honorably or dishonorably, with purpose or adrift. We decide what is important and what is trivial in life. We decide that what makes us significant is either what we do or what we refuse to do. But no matter how indifferent the universe may be to our choices and decisions, these choices and decisions are ours to make. We decide. We choose. And as we decide and choose, so are our lives formed. In the end, forming our own destiny is what ambition is about.” - Joseph Epstein

Interesting to think about! Sometimes I wish Iran was Christian because of the beauty of Armenian Christian architecture.

Why don't you start a thread
"WHAT IF I WAS A WOMAN"
"WHAT IF I WAS A MIDGET"
"WHAT IF I WAS AN ANT"
"WHAT IF I WAS A SNAKE"

Re: What if Armenians were Muslim?
Probably larger numbers of Armenians, at least those living farther from the homeland, would have been assimilated, yes. Or maybe they would have Armenized their neighbours. "Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit".

Re: What if Armenians were Muslim?
there are still Kurds to this day, and the Europeans who became Muslim during the ottoman empire didn't become Turks after the empire fell, so you never know what could of happened
Another question is, if we had stayed Zoroastrian, how would that affected the rise of Christianity and Islam in the middle east? Did we start a domino effect when we converted? would've Iran stayed zoroastrian if we had? How would that influenced the rise of christianity? and would Islam have ever came about if Christianity never got off the ground?
Another question would be, what if all Turks, Arabs, Kurds, and Persians were orthodox Christian? would there still be Armenians today? or would we have still been absorbed?Last edited by ara87; 03-04-2011, 01:11 AM.

Re: What if Armenians were Muslim?
There wouldn't be Armenian Muslims, there would be no Armenians by name, we would be called something else, maybe Turks, maybe Azeris, who knows.

There would be Sunni, Shiite and Armenian Muslims.

Yeah being absorbed by much larger Muslim groups is certainly a possible outcome.

Re: What if Armenians were Muslim?
If Armenians adopted Islam, there would be no Armenians today. At least they wouldn't be called Armenians. We would be like on of those "extinct" ethnic groups, like Caucasian Albanians. The Armenian Church is the most important part of the Armenian identity, and with it we have been able to sustain our Armenian identity throughout the years, especially during our years of Islamic oppression.
