Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Tattoo in armenian

    Hi everyone!

First I'd to already apologize for my bad English because I'm french and not really bilingual.
Here's the thing, I would like a small sentence tattoed on my arm and I wanted it to be written in a way that not everybody would understand it. I met a friend who's armenian and he showed me the alphabet and I just fell in love with it
So the decision was easy I'm gonna do it in armenian !

It is not really easy to find a translator even more when I don't speak or read armenian at all, and I would like to have a second opinion though, to be sure that what will be inked on my skin has the right meaning at least and that's why I need your help please!
So the sentence is " Be your own hero " and he wrote me " Եխիր քո սեփական հերոսը " (without being really sure)
    Is it OK ?

And last thing is that I looking for websites or whatever that could help me about the written form, like fonts or someone who could write it with his hand for me because I can't find anything by my own..

Thank you all for you help

And are you going to find a tattoist who can write Armenian? Or risk a disaster like that American singer who got it into her head to have a tattoo in Hebrew on her neck, and made a laughing stock of herself because it was spelt wrong!

I don't expect my tattoist to be able to write or understand Armenian, I only ask her to tattoo properly the text I will give to her And I hope that someone who's Armenian agrees with my friend's translation to avoid that kind of trouble

First off, it should be Եղիր not Եխիր

Second, you could also use անձնական instead of սեփական - in my view it sounds better because անձնական has more of a connotation to one's self, though that's just my opinion.

Third, the font often used for Armenian is Sylfaen font.

        bonne chance!

Since it is a sort of inscription, maybe it shhould be in an Erkatagir script?

I agree with Mos, the sentence should read "Եղիր քո անձնական հերոսը"

Wow I didn't think that I would get as many answers Thank you for your advice and corrections !
But I have an other question which's coming out now ; Mos you said that անձնական sounds better as սեփական .. can you try to explain me the nuance please ? Actually the way I understand the sentence is that people should be their own heroes, trust their own abilities/powers instead of counting on other imaginary people. And also that we should fight for the title which attribued to us, count on ourselves, being independant...
Aoutch really tough to clear it in English and it probably sounds ridiculous but I tried

you don't really need to use անձնական, you can just go like this: Դուն եղիր քո հերոսը, or: Դուն քո հերոսը եղիր.

անձնական: means personal but it used more for things very personal with your identity,or things that you use in person such: name, picture, car or even house

սեփական: also means personal but used more for material things that you own but not necessarily you use, such: land, house, car or anything you own but not necessarily you use for your personal needs.

Well that's saying it in Western Armenian, I think the OP wants it in Eastern, plus in Eastern Armenian it sounds better with "անձնական" as it gives the self more emphasis. Though the nuance can be debated

                    Re: Tattoo in armenian

                    Hang on here...

You have no attachment to anything Armenian, can't read and write the language, and are simply using it as an obscure enough language/alphabet that not many will understand your tattoo?

You may as well make up an alphabet of your own or write gibberish on your arm. If you can't read it and don't want anyone else to, what is the point? What's the point? My apologies, but this seems to be as terrible an idea as people who get chinese, japanese, etc tattoos and aren't of that ethnicity and don't speak/read the language.
Someone may as well write out "yes hayeren chem hasganum" (no armo font at work) for her...
