The official government census in about 3.25 million people. However, it is widely believed that this number is inflated, and that the real number is less, maybe even significantly less. The real number could be about 2.5-3 million people at best. There is still an immigration problem, with many people leaving each year, even though it is significantly improved when compared to the 1990's. Furthermore, there is the problem regarding temporary workers. There are many who live part or most of the year in Russia to have employment and send money to their families.
