    Re: men / beasts

    my worst "insults" to armenians
    are quotations from our literature.
we either believe our writers or our politicians. i prefer writers...

      HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY
      ***********************************
Zsa Zsa Gabor: “My dad told me, 'Anything worth having is worth waiting for,' so I waited until I was fifteen.”
At which point she fell for Atatürk. That's what I call a brilliant debut.

Americans were defeated in Vietnam, but as far as I know no American ever called it a “moral victory.”
Moral victories are for perennial losers.
No one ever goes to war to prove the moral inferiority of his enemy.

          MY FAVORITE HOJA STORY
          ***********************************
It was common knowledge that in his youth Nasreddin Hoja made a comfortable living as a smuggler. So that whenever he crossed the border with his donkey (and he did so frequently) he was searched thoroughly by border guards, who found nothing. Years later, when one of these guards met the Hoja, he wanted to know what was it that he was smuggling. "Donkeys," replied the Hoja.

            VAHE OSHAGAN
            *************************************
“I am ashamed to call myself an Armenian,” Vahé Oshagan is reported to have said when one of his books was given a negative reception in our weeklies. *Once upon a time I too identified myself with my fellow Armenians to such an unreasonable degree that I was embarrassed when any one of them behaved badly. I know now that Armenians, all Armenians without exception, are first and foremost individuals before being members of a tribe or nation; and as individuals, they should be judged as individuals. If an Armenian chooses to make an ass of himself in public, so be it, that is his choice, not mine or anyone else’s. If, as an individual he is free, so am I, and I freely choose not to be responsible for his actions.

I have readers who review my writings the way pigeons review statues.

                AN ARMENIAN STORY
                *********************************
Born and raised in the same neighborhood,
                brainwashed by the same schoolteachers,
once upon a time we were as close as brothers.
But our friendship began to evaporate
                when he acquired a wife,
                produced children, and realized
there is no money in dissent
I am now his #1 enemy.
                *
It can’t be easy for him to admit
he was born an idiot and he now survives
                as the dupe of idiots.

Because we agreed on ninety-nine things
                  and disagreed on one,
                  he became my mortal enemy.
