Did we ever produce a writer who could have
qualified as a candidate for the Nobel Prize? The
answer is, yes, certainly, many. But we silenced
all of them. I have in mind not only writers of
the Soviet period that were systematically purged
by our commissars, but also writers of the
Diaspora, like Zarian, Shahnour, and Massikian,
who were rejected and silenced by our own
1%.

Think twice before you insult a writer:
he may immortalize you.

No more than Raffi, Odian, Baronian,
Massikian, Shahnour, Zarian….

To echo Hitler:
“After all, who reads Armenian writers today?”

My standard reply to the standard question:
“You think you are the only one
who has been misunderstood, insulted,
rejected and starved?”
“No! That’s why I speak with the strength of many.”

I don’t hate Armenians. It’s the other way around.
It is Armenians who hate their writers -- or love them
only after they are dead and buried.”

I will always remain a mediocrity
because I failed to declare their superiority.

Perhaps my quarrel is not with readers but with myself, my younger self, when I was innocent and naïve and therefore an ideal target for manipulators.

If you write a hundred lines, an Armenian will find a word or a comma with which he will disagree and ignore the rest. #armenians
