Is Armenia like America where you have to be born in the country to run for president? Because the more I think about it, the more I realize most of our best minds are OUTSIDE the country. For example, when Israel (OooOoOOoOOoo I use dthe scary "I" word on this board again) was founded, they asked Albert Einstein to be president. Could politicians established in other countries, such as George Dukmajian (form. Gov. of California) run for office in Armenia?

    Kocharian

I think so because Kocharian was born in Karabakh far as I know. On the other hand though there could be some kind of loophole calling it part of Armenia and therefore allowing him to become President. Whatever the case rules are indeed looser over there.

I was born in Armenia. However, I will not be president of Armenia. I would like to be dictator though.

It's sort of a shame. Not to put down Hayastan, but the fact of tha matter is it's hard to come up either financially or educationally in a countryover run with poverty. The Armenians with the most qualifications to run a country probably live OUTSIDE the country... the doors really should be open to them.

Levon Ter Petrosian was born in Syria. You need 10 years citizenship.

That is why Raffi Hovannisian's candidature was declined. Not because he was born in the States, but because he took quite some time before adopting the Armenian citizenship.

10 years citizenship and be 35 years old... Raffi Hovhannisyan applied for citizenship long time ago, but he didn't get it... when he got it, it was too late... Robert Qocharyan had Armenian sitizenship (almost 15 years, as I remember) ...

Well, I do intend to work in Armenian politics. Whether in government or diplomacy, I do not yet know, but I'll hopefully leave my mark somewhere.

But let's not get carried away now..
