Hi everyone...i'm new here as you will see, but i need a little help from you all if you do not mind.

I am so tired of looking for a one on one translation dictionary, i figured if i joined here and made some friends, we could perhaps make one ourselves.

My girlfriend speaks classic Armenian, and i want to learn it.

can you all help me out with a few phrases i might need when i come over to armenia next year...???

are you sure she speaks 'classic' armenian aka grapar? i hardly think any of us speak it here! and if anyone does i can assure you it is not taught at home; it's very old and very difficult to understand; maybe you meant that she speaks fluent armenian.

Yea, I don't think anyone other than a handful of people are versed in classical Armenian. Most Armenians speak ashkharabar.

Ahh yes Peter Cowe, I've met him twice over here on the East Coast giving a lecture. A great "Armenian" heheh.

wow! i am impressed! encourage her to post here; so how did she learn it if you don't mind? and also does she speak eastern or western armenian? i am just curious.

She speaks all Armenian. Modern Armenian she refers to as 'street' Armenian. She learns very quick. She as learnt English in 2 months. Now she calls me most nights and speaks just English to me, which is good I guess because if she spoke Armenian I would not have a clue what she meant.

I will have to ask her how, or where she learnt. I am not sure if it would be part of her journalism course at university, but how she explains it she as spoke that way since she was a child. Yesterday, when first looking at the Armenian language I asked, "Do you speak Eastern or Western" she said no, she speaks 'classic'.

She would not speak here i do not think. She does not really speak on chat sites.

She likes Armenian poetry. I wanted to find a site that could translate from Armenian to english. If all else fails I shall send her some Shakespear or Byron. They were quite good >;-)

So what do you all do for work??? Do you surf at home or work???
