ok i was born and rasied in the usa. my whole family was born in armenia but I CANT UNDERSTAND THEM!!! they speak rough english and its hard u know? can anyone point me towards a website that teaches u basic armenian? i know how to say hi and how are u? but a online diconary would be nice. help a fellow armenian out and point me towards somewhere! i would like to talk to my grandpa for once.

I have tried learning Armenian online and with a dictionary. It wont take you very far.
Im going to be studying Armenian in the next two years in school, and I recommend that you do the same if you are serious. You can probably order an Armenian dictionary from any major book store.
As far as internet, I recommend searching "Armenian Language", "Armenian Dictionary", etc. You will get different websites, and will be able to choose the one you like the best. (You may have thought of this on your own lol) I never found a website I liked enough to recommend, sorry. Good Luck! -

Since when is oo and yev a part of the alphabet? The yev part was just an ending for kids to say like, "now I know my a,b,c's".Comment

I suppose I can relate to you, but on a different level. When I first met armenian people, their english was horrible. They just came from armenia so they didnt really have a grasp of the english language. After time, they began to develop and now some are still learning while others can speak english as if they always have. I had a difficulty understanding them at first, I would use their hand gestures and facial expressions to understand what it was that they were trying to say. Not to mention listen VERYYY closely. But after a while I grew to understand them perfectly. I even went with a few to doctors appointments, etc. To help "translate" some things they needed to say. Now, I find it quite funny how some of them try to talk with canadians in english and they have no understanding of what they are trying to say. People adjust to it. But for learning armenian, there are thousands of websites to go to for that. I have done so and it has helped me tremendously. I speak armenian pretty well now. However, my understanding of it is by far better. Also watch their hand gestures and their facial expressions when they are speaking, it will help develop your understanding of what they are speaking about.

I'm a non Armenina myself but have spent the last 3 years learning the language. At this point I can speak, read and write it ok. My furst purchase was a pimsleur's course of Armenian. That was good for a basis.
I also suggest kids books. I know it's silly but i've learned so much going that route...starting at a basic age and getting more advanced aged books as youu progress. Technically I'm a 2nd grader!
