I think he thinks Genocide IS one of the historical requirements to get in the EU"All truth passes through three stages:
First, it is ridiculed;
Second, it is violently opposed; and
Third, it is accepted as self-evident."
Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860)

EU, like any organization that has some sort of power is not clean itself. To distract international community's focus, keeps the issues on Turkish people and their past. Belgium in Kongo, France in Morocco and the nearly every country that has made attempts or has colonization ,have their hands dirty. But if they label Armenian massacres as genocide then they would have many cases on their hands. Thus, they show off the world. Taking decisions in parliaments condemning happenings as genocide, celebrating days, condemning Turkey and so on and on... But they never take action, the power, interests and strategy kickin, they go silent and say " There is nothing we can do if Turkey takes no action"
It is european way, if you buy it... Dont get yourself concerned wit EU, at least on this topic.
However, a national union of Turkic countries, at least for now is a far away possibility and needs much work yet . Ofcourse I would choose it over EU, but we have only 3 choices at present time.. America, America-EU,Russia-China..
The best choice for now is America-EU, if it is possible...
BTW- It is clever not cleaver...

I believe it's obvious that it's not in Europe's interest to admit Turkey into the E.U. at all. Of course, it wouldn't reflect nicely if they flat out refused, but most of the European nations are voicing their silent protest (particularly France) by bringing into discussion issues that they KNOW Turkey is reluctant to touch. The way I see the Europeans handling this, they just want to upset the Turks to the point where they give up on pressing their ascension. At this point, especially after riots in France, Europe doesn't want anymore Muslims.
p.s.
That's not a cleaver, my friend, THIS is a cleaver:

I see no rationale to join the EU, I believe that it is far better to establish healthy trade relations, and some cultural programs to enhance friendship between Turkey and Europe, but that should be all.
The EU is not the "ultimate torch" for humanity, development or modernization. On contrary, it is the sum of some national state establishments that are in gradual decline. In fact, I believe that Turkey would have more to offer to the EU than what the EU can offer to Turkey in 2010s, and hopefully, we will all see it one or the other way.

As of now, Turkey doesn't really offer much more than a massive load of immigrant workers.you need to learn about Turkeys finances and economics instead of make predictions. it will only be good for Armenia if Turkey join EU. there is not a bad thing that will happen for Armenia if Turkey joins. unless essential foreign investment is bad. i think no.**********************************

Ummm...Turanist, that link you posted only says that "Turkey's economy is doing good!" That's not enough for an objective analysis. There is no doubt that Turkey's economy is on the rise (although it is very erratic, so the its future isn't too clear) and has a considerable amount of trade, but I doubt it will surpass that of the major European nations for a while.
A list of GNPs include:
Turkey, GDP: $ 508,700,000,000
France, GDP: $ 1,737,000,000,000
Germany, GDP: $ 2,362,000,000,000
United Kingdom GDP: $ 1,782,000,000,000
Spain, GDP: $ 937,600,000,000
Belgium, GDP: $ 316,200,000,000
I'm not an economist, and GDPs (Gross Domestic Product) are certainly not an indicator of economic future, but from what it looks like Turkey still has a while to go before it can consider itself a dominant economic player in the European market.
Also, I support Turkey's ascencion to E.U., on condition that certain civil rights requirements are met, and of course the obvious: formal recognition.
