Long time no see .. glad that you are back
And thank you very much, for sharing those photographs ... it's devestating really to see them... shocking pictures ... I mean it's not that I have never seen pictures like that, but those ones are really sad, I have Hirair Hawk's photo collection book "Yergir" , it contains pretty sad pictures of before and after, some of them before 1970s and present day, I think that we all should have a copy of that book..
Anyway, I just wanted to ask about the French Quote of Victor Hugo ... Can you please translate it ??Comment

I think because it is older French, passer (to pass, to cross) is used with avoir (to have) rather than être (to be), today they say: ils sont passés, so I wrote it that way...
It means Turks were here, everything is ruin and sorrow (mourning).

As for the quote ... you are right, everyone have heard something like that at least once or from one source... there is an Arabic saying reflect the same meaning but it refers to Mongols I think, when somewhere is a mess they say "here passed the Mongols (or Holako)" I'm not sure !!
There is another saying in Arabic
" نكبات هذا القرن ثلاثة : القمل و الاتراك و الذباب"
The translation is " This Century's plagues are three : Lice and Turks and flies" this is a saying from the 19th century !Comment
