Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

  • Cecil the Lion and the Armenian Cause

What can supporters of the Armenian Cause learn from the Cecil the Lion controversy?

Take the protest local and make it personal.

A group of protesters outside the office of a suburban Minneapolis dentist who killed a protected lion in Zimbabwe has grown to a couple of hundred people.

Do not march and disrupt city traffic each year just to reach the front of the Turkish Embassy to yell. The Turks don't care. This does little to encourage non-Armenians in the community to enlist in the cause of genocide recognition and may actually piss them off to the point that they oppose you. (These yearly protests get scant national news attention and brief mention in local news broadcasts)

Instead, protest in front of the residences of those who lobby U.S. politicians in the United States against genocide recognition on behalf of Turkey, Israel and American j*ws and rail against them in public forums.

The same way Israeli firsters protest former U.S. presidents directly to his face at book signings and criticize him in op-ed pieces. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/14/bo...cart.html?_r=0

Supporters of the Armenian cause must get intimatee with those in the U.S. who lobby the U.S. government on Turkey's behalf to let them know that their complicity in genocide denial is exposed and there are consequences to such reprehensible conduct including public shaming.

Freaky I was there myself giving both the Turkish government rep and the jewish "scholor" hell for claiming that what happened to us was not genocide at a eastern Michigan university lecture sponsored by the Turkish lobby. These bastards announced the event last minute because they new more people like me would show up if they announced it earlier. The Zionists do not care because they have way more power then we do. I do agree that it is pathetic watching our church leaders trying to cozy up to these soulless bastards who time and again stab us in the back every chance they get. To be fair not all jews are Zionists and not all Zionists are jews. There are many jews who despise what Israel is and what it does including the denial of justice to us. You see some of us are indeed publicly fighting and exposing injustice and it does make for some discomfort to our enemies but it is still not making much of a difference that I can see. I think we have won the battle of hearts and minds long ago but geopolitics has kept us away from our goals and continues to do so today.

Re: Cecil the Lion and the Armenian Cause

                Haykakan,

No disrespect to you. It is both noble and courageous to be a sentinel for the cause. But, one voice is not a protest. At least one that will garner much attention except possibly being removed from the event by a goon or some misinformed public servant.

I am talking about protesting without merely blocking traffic for a day to make some impotent, sterile yet symbolic gesture. For instance, if 10,000 people showed up at the jewish scholar's residence after the genocide denial event. See what happens. He may be less inclined to spew falsities about the genocide. And, realize that his speech rights are not as the truth.

And, I'm not just talking protesting disingenuous scholars and Turkish representative. I am talking about local protests of Americans who actively lobby on behalf of Israeli and Turkish interests for the U.S. government to refrain from recognizing the genocide.

I'll give you an example. A few months back, at Americana, Rick Caruso, the owner attempted to forbid some Armenian Americans from selling pro recognition merchandise. Caruso eventually caved from his posiition. But, he is on the Board of Trustees or Governors for USC. Instead of amassing 100k in front of the Turkish Embassy to the dismay of Los Angeles citizens with little if any attention from the Turkish Government or local or national media. Drop 100k at USC and demand that the genocide denier be removed from USC as a governor or trust. Same goes for Jane Harman (former Congresswoman who is pro-turkey and anti genocide recognition) and Bruce Ramer (former national President of the AJC).

See, the problem is that our so called church leaders and political lobbyists do not even know who is working against us on the ground in the U.S. Protest these people. Let them know that their opinion is not well taken. Drop 10k in front of their place of business or home. Make it uncomfortable for them. They think noone knows or cares how they do Turkey's bidding.

Or, drop 10k in front of a Turkey supporting US Congressperson's home. It will not only get their attention but that person's state and the nation.

Wow 10K?You must be in LALA land. That is like 25% of the entire community here in Detroit. One problem I have seen is that a lot of people who do show up do not understand exactly what they are protesting and are really clueless when they have to say something. Even some of the leaders are clueless regarding the issues. I will take quality over quantity most of the time. It really hurts our cause when some clueless protester is put on the spot and makes him/herself along with the whole protest look foolish and stupid.
