İn 1915 there were 1,5 million Armenians,2 million Greeks, and total of 14 million people were living in Anatolia.İf the ratio has increased with the same percentage comparing to Turks, today there would be 7 million Armenians and 10 millions Greeks living in Turkey.Actually which means that today More Greeks and Armenians would be living in Turkey than in the countries of Armenia and Greece. Here when we say Armenian and Greek we mean the Christian ones. The other Millions of them willingly changed their religions and chose İslam during the hundreds years of long period of Ottoman empires stronger days and were considered simply muslims.İn fact when the first real Turks entered to Anatolia,Armenians helped them in their fights against Bizantium. The number of original Turks were no more than 100,000.But they were so skilled in fighting that eventually they invaded all Anatolia. Before and after the Ottomans, they continuosly mixed with Anatolia's original people for hundreds of years and lost their originality completely.
People who live in Turkey today show little signs of real Turcic characters. On the other hand they resembles Greeks and Armenians very much. This is also prooved by examination of the Y chromozomes.Leaving all these aside, just by observing the people, one can come to this conclusion very easily.İf any Armenian walks on the street there is no chance that we can identify him or her other than a Turk.We can say that Turks are a mixture of races which includes Greeks and Armenians a lot.
So all the things going on is rather a religious issue than a racial one.İn the last days of Ottomans some pashas realised this reality that Ottoman empire lost all its power because of the clashes of the religions. They decided to change the 500 years long of tolarance and freedom to all religions policy and establish a new country with people who are all muslims and convert the others to islam or send them away to the states that England is about to take from Ottomans in order to be able to keep the remaing parts of the country together. Some of them went further like Enver pasha and attempted to connect Anatolia with Centrel Asia which caused 100 thousand soldiers freeze and die even before the start of the war in Erzurum,Turkey.
After 1900 Ottomans were in chaos and anarchy,Sultans were not able to control and rule the country anymore.Half of the muslim population died in Arabic lands. There were extereme diseases and powerty.Armenians in Anatolia together with muslims were suffering this also. And yes some Armenians rebelled against sultans. They killed muslims, they raped, stole, burnt the villages. These are very well known facts. However we are not sure how many and how extensive these rebellions were.We also dont know if these were orginised or if they were just individual cases. But these rebells triggered it all .Muslims were ready for a long time to send christians away and started to their project.and tragedy ....everything was in disorder. After 900 years of peaceful togetherness madness beat the brotherhood.Unfortunately we all know what happened after....
So far ı guess 90% of the Turks and armenians would agree.but what we disagree is if the things done by Turks were a genocide or not.
Yes many killings and rapes have been made by some soldiers and others but these were not organized crimes and were done by individuals and there were no dicipline in the army.İt was not Sultans order. So I think the displacement of the armenians is a great tragedy but cannot be called a genocide.however We also cannot see this as a victory.İn fact it was very immoral.
I grew with armenian and greek neighbours. And I definitly like them and ı would like to see them here again.when ı look at the things from your point you have every right to hate us.But if this displacement wouldnt have done I am not so sure if we could have ever made our independent country Turkey today or not.So many Greeks and Armenians in the country at that time could have prevented us to be a united and independent country. Finally Atatürk our great leader who dont look like mongolians at all was so much disgusted with the religions clashes during that period (which still goes on) that he made Turkey a secular country where the state has no religion but people can believe whatever they want freely.
I sincerely hope futere can bring togetherness and happiness to Armenians and Turks.
