Forum Rules (Everyone Must Read!!!)

1] What you CAN NOT post.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is:
- abusive
- vulgar
- hateful
- harassing
- personal attacks
- obscene

You also may not:
- post images that are too large (max is 500*500px)
- post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or cited properly.
- post in UPPER CASE, which is considered yelling
- post messages which insult the Armenians, Armenian culture, traditions, etc
- post racist or other intentionally insensitive material that insults or attacks another culture (including Turks)

The Ankap thread is excluded from the strict rules because that place is more relaxed and you can vent and engage in light insults and humor. Notice it's not a blank ticket, but just a place to vent. If you go into the Ankap thread, you enter at your own risk of being clowned on.
What you PROBABLY SHOULD NOT post...
Do not post information that you will regret putting out in public. This site comes up on Google, is cached, and all of that, so be aware of that as you post. Do not ask the staff to go through and delete things that you regret making available on the web for all to see because we will not do it. Think before you post!

2] Use descriptive subject lines & research your post. This means use the SEARCH.

This reduces the chances of double-posting and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Using the search function will identify existing threads on the topic so we do not have multiple threads on the same topic.

3] Keep the focus.

Each forum has a focus on a certain topic. Questions outside the scope of a certain forum will either be moved to the appropriate forum, closed, or simply be deleted. Please post your topic in the most appropriate forum. Users that keep doing this will be warned, then banned.

4] Behave as you would in a public location.

This forum is no different than a public place. Behave yourself and act like a decent human being (i.e. be respectful). If you're unable to do so, you're not welcome here and will be made to leave.

5] Respect the authority of moderators/admins.

Public discussions of moderator/admin actions are not allowed on the forum. It is also prohibited to protest moderator actions in titles, avatars, and signatures. If you don't like something that a moderator did, PM or email the moderator and try your best to resolve the problem or difference in private.

6] Promotion of sites or products is not permitted.

Advertisements are not allowed in this venue. No blatant advertising or solicitations of or for business is prohibited.
This includes, but not limited to, personal resumes and links to products or
services with which the poster is affiliated, whether or not a fee is charged
for the product or service. Spamming, in which a user posts the same message repeatedly, is also prohibited.

7] We retain the right to remove any posts and/or Members for any reason, without prior notice.

- PLEASE READ -

Members are welcome to read posts and though we encourage your active participation in the forum, it is not required. If you do participate by posting, however, we expect that on the whole you contribute something to the forum. This means that the bulk of your posts should not be in "fun" threads (e.g. Ankap, Keep & Kill, This or That, etc.). Further, while occasionally it is appropriate to simply voice your agreement or approval, not all of your posts should be of this variety: "LOL Member213!" "I agree."
If it is evident that a member is simply posting for the sake of posting, they will be removed.

8] These Rules & Guidelines may be amended at any time. (last update September 17, 2009)

If you believe an individual is repeatedly breaking the rules, please report to admin/moderator.

Armenians March For Freedom Of Expression In Turkey

ARMENIANS MARCH FOR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN TURKEY

      **

*Montreal**, **Tuesday November 15 2005* : Armenian youth will march for
freedom of expression in Turkey on Friday, November 18th 2005. With the
adoption of the new Turkish Penal Code, article 301 states that any
reference to the Armenian question is an insult to the Turkish nation and is
subject to criminal prosecution. Hrant Dink, a Turkish journalist and editor
of an Armenian daily in Istanbul has recently been found guilty under this
new law and has received a commuted sentence of six months. Orhan Pamuk,
internationally renowned Turkish author, is prosecuted on the same grounds
for having mentioned the case of disappearance of many Armenians and Kurds
      during World War I.

This crackdown on detractors from the official revisionist state thesis is
a warning sign for many defenders of Human Rights around the world,
especially at a time when Turkey is negotiating entry into the European
      Union.

The Armenian Youth for Justice and Democracy wish to raise public awareness
regarding the increase of criminal prosecution in Turkey. They also denounce
the Turkish government's use of such laws to safeguard the official
revisionist state policy regarding the Armenian Genocide of 1915 within its
      borders.

"If Turkey sincerely wants to join the EU, it must allow for true
freedom of expression instead of keeping the taboo around the Armenian
Genocide alive" said Ms. Lory Hovsepian, spokesperson for the Armenian
Youth for Justice and Democracy. "Cosmetic changes are not enough, the
Turkish state must stop prosecuting Turkish intellectuals whose
positions are not identical to that of the state" she added.

Participants will meet at Concodia University at 11:00 am (corner de
Maisonneuve and Mackay) and will make stops at Ğ Musique Plus ğ as
well as Ğ The Gazette ğ et Ğ La Presse ğ.

Andrew Goldberg, Filmmaker Of 'the Armenian Genocide'

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION
          ANDREW GOLDBERG, FILMMAKER OF
          'THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE'
          SPEAKS AT AGBU MONTREAL
IN THE 7th ANNUAL DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER SERIES

Montreal, April 17, 2006 - On Saturday, April 29th, AGBU Montreal will hold
its 7th annual Distinguished Speaker series event on genocide. The guest of
the event is the Emmy award winning documentary filmmaker Andrew Goldberg,
whose recent film 'The Armenian Genocide' was broadcast on the PBS network,
          and on TVOntario.

The film will be screened in its Montreal premiere at the AGBU. After the
screening, the filmmaker will address the audience about his experience of
the making of this film. There will also be a brief Q&A period.

"The Armenian Genocide is a unique film", said Viken L. Attarian, chairman
of AGBU, "not only because it documents one of the darkest moments in human
history, but also because it brings together a group of courageous Turkish
historians who critically address the history of the perpetrator of this
crime, the Ottoman Turkish government. That is one of the main reasons that
this film came under savage attack by the denialist propaganda machinery of
the Turkish government and its agents."

"This film also presents, for the first time, rare footage with Raphael
Lemkin, the Polish jurist who defined the term genocide", said Line
Abrahamian, member of the AGBU genocide commemoration committee, "Lemkin
clearly and specifically states how he was inspired by horrific genocides of
Jews and Armenians, and wanted to bring these crimes to the attention of the
          world".

This 7th annual Distinguished Speaker event will be held on April the 29th,
2006 at 7:00 p.m. at 805 Manoogian Street, Ville St. Laurent, in the Jirair
and Elise Dervishian hall of the AGBU center. Admission is free.

For press and media interviews with Mr. Andrew Goldberg, or for further
information, please contact the AGBU at 514-748-2428 or

Canadian Government Reaffirms Motions Recognizing Armenian Genocide

              25.04.2006 21:57 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Mackay, in response to Liberal MP Jim Karygiannis' (Scarborough-Agincourt) question, reaffirmed today Canadian Government's policy on the Armenian Genocide, reports the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC). Mackay stated that the Government reaffirmed the motions of the Senate of Canada and the House of Commons, recognizing the Armenian Genocide. At the end of the Question Period the Speaker of the House invited the members of the House to observe a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Earlier in the day a delegation from the ANCC and its regional chapters, headed by Hagop Der Khachadourian, ANCC International, and Archbishop Khajak Hagopian, prelate of the Armenian Church of Canada, visited the Armenian Embassy to lay a wreath at the monument dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The House of Commons had a session where Genocide affirmation statements were made by the representative of all political parties.

Toronto, Hayastan All-Armenian Fund banquet with Baroness Cox a huge
                success.

$300,000 raised to build yet another school in Karabagh.

                June 13, 2006 Toronto, ON - On Sunday, June 11, Hayastan All-Armenian
Fund had its annual banquet at the AGBU Manookian Hall, at a capacity
audience. This year's Guest of Honour was Baroness Caroline Cox, the
Deputy Speaker of the British House of Lords and a great humanitarian,
who is a true friend of Karabagh and its people. The Master of
Ceremonies of the evening was Vahan Kololian, who ran the proceedings
in an impeccable manner. The program started with the national
anthems of Canada, UK, Armenia and Karabagh interpreted by baritone
Garo Nishanian and accomplished pianist Raffi Bedrosyan. The first key
item of the evening was the Letter of Greetings from the Prime Minister
of Canada, Right Honourable Stephen Harper. The letter was presented
and read by Hon. Jason Kenney, the Parliamentary Secretary to the
Prime Minister. After that Ara Boyajian, the treasurer of the Fund's
Toronto Chapter, gave a detailed presentation of all the projects of
the Fund since its inception. Then, a congratulatory letter from the
NKR Washington, DC, office representative Vardan Parseghian was read.

The highpoint of the evening had arrived. Migirdic Migirdicyan,
the local chairman of the Fund, introduced the key-note speaker
Baroness Caroline Cox who gave a superb presentation, accompanied by
slides, of her experiences in Karabagh during and after its struggle
of independence. The speech was interrupted by several standing
ovations. Inspired by the Baroness' presentation several patrons
increased their pledges. Thereby, as soon as the construction of the
school in Madaghis finishes, a new school will be built for another
village with the same architectural plan. This school will be named
after Baroness Cox. A total of $300,000 was raised.

At the end of this intellectually and emotionally charged evening, in
appreciation of all of her tireless work for the people of Karabagh,
the Toronto Chapter of the Fund presented Baroness Cox with a life-size
portrait of herself, painted by internationally acclaimed painter
                Robert Amirault.

The evening ended with the prayers and the closing remarks of Bishop
Bagrat Galstanian, the Primate of the Canadian Diocese.
