    Canadian Delegation Returns from Armenia
Federal MP's and Senator return from Genocide pilgrimage

Montréal - On April 16, 2005 a delegation made up of Canadian federal
Members of Parliament and a Senator as well as members of the Armenian
National Committee of Canada left for the Armenian capital Yerevan for
a 16 day pilgrimage to the Caucasus nation on the occasion of the 90th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The original group comprised of
Sen. Raymond Setlakwe and his wife, and Mme Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral
was joined by Hon. Jim Karrygiannis (M.P. Scarborough-Agincourt) and
Mr. Lynn Myers (M.P. Kitchener-Conestoga) on the 21st of April. Along
with representatives of the A.N.C.C., the group joined 1.5 million
Armenians in the march through the streets of Yerevan, on April 24th,
toward Dzidzernagapert, the 40 year old monument commemorating the
1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

Seeing the deep sorrow of the descendants of the victims on that
solemn day, the representatives of the Canadian Parliament were
deeply moved and joined them in their march for justice. Returning
today, the elected officials will undoubtedly continue their fight
    for historical justice.

Mme Madeleine Dalhpond-Guiral was the Bloc Québecois Member of
Parliament who introduced motion M-380 in the House of Commons,
a motion which was adopted on April 21, 2004, and made Canada one
of many countries to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide of
1915. Both of the other M.P.'s present have a longstanding record of
unwaivering support of the Armenian Cause in the Canadian political
arena along with Sen. Raymond Setlakwe who is of Armenian origin.

Upon his arrival, Dr. Girair Basmadjian, president of the Armenian
National Committee of Canada stated: "it is always possible to tell
people about the just claims of Armenians, however, showing the people
who have done so much for us the daily struggle for justice that
they live is in many ways much more telling. I would like to thank
Hon. Sen. Raymond Setlakwe, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, M. Lynn Myers and
Mme Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral for their participation in this 90th
    commemoration of the Armenian Genocide."
